Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 7.0
You have successfully identified the main features of both the chart and the table. You provided a clear overview and supported your points with relevant data. However, the report could be improved by grouping the survey data more logically. For instance, the paragraph regarding the survey results is quite dense and lists figures in a way that feels like a raw data dump rather than a comparative analysis. To reach a higher band, focus on grouping categories that share similar trends or contrasts, rather than listing each percentage point sequentially. Overall, you have addressed all parts of the prompt effectively.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 7.0
The response is logically organized with a clear introduction, overview, and body paragraphs. You use some cohesive devices such as 'In contrast', 'However', and 'Additionally' to link ideas. However, the flow within the second body paragraph is somewhat mechanical. The transition between the different survey categories is abrupt, and the use of punctuation is occasionally inconsistent, which affects the smoothness of the reading. To improve, try to vary your linking phrases and ensure that each paragraph has a clear thematic focus, rather than just listing the next set of data points.
Lexical Resource — Band 6.5
You demonstrate an adequate range of vocabulary for the task, using terms like 'proportion', 'represented', and 'significant number'. There are some minor inaccuracies in word choice and collocation, such as 'academic staff had lowest percentage' (missing an article) and 'rest are fairly satisfied' (should be 'the rest'). While your vocabulary is sufficient to convey the meaning, it lacks the precision and variety required for higher bands. Incorporating more sophisticated reporting verbs and comparative adjectives would enhance your lexical score.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 6.5
You use a mix of simple and complex sentence structures. While the meaning is generally clear, there are several grammatical errors, particularly with articles ('the' is frequently missing) and sentence structure. For example, 'Looking first at full-time undergraduates accounted for...' is grammatically incorrect; it should be 'Looking first at full-time undergraduates, they accounted for...'. Additionally, there are issues with subject-verb agreement and punctuation, such as the comma usage in 'However,in the availability'. These errors are noticeable but do not prevent the reader from understanding the information provided.
