Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 5.5
You have successfully identified the main features of the data, including the user categories and the satisfaction levels. You provided a clear overview and supported your points with specific data from the chart and table. However, the response lacks a degree of analytical depth. For instance, while you mention the satisfaction percentages, you could have made more direct comparisons between the categories (e.g., noting that staff satisfaction is significantly higher than satisfaction with journal availability). Additionally, there is a minor error in the interpretation of the data regarding 'journals' which is slightly confusingly phrased. Overall, you have covered all parts of the task well, but more precise comparative language would elevate the response.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 5.5
The response is logically organized into an introduction, an overview, and a body paragraph. You use some cohesive devices such as 'Furthermore', 'To commence with', and 'Whereas' to link ideas. However, the flow is occasionally hindered by awkward phrasing and punctuation errors, such as the sentence starting with 'however' which lacks proper capitalization and punctuation. The transition between the user categories and the satisfaction data is a bit abrupt. Improving the use of linking phrases and ensuring that each paragraph has a clear thematic focus would improve the overall coherence of your writing.
Lexical Resource — Band 5.5
You demonstrate an adequate range of vocabulary for the task, using terms like 'proportion', 'satisfaction rating', and 'reliability'. However, there are instances of imprecise word choice and awkward collocations, such as 'availability of causes journals a negative impact' and 'the one most interested in library taking 44% of proportion'. These errors occasionally make the meaning slightly unclear. To reach a higher band, focus on using more precise academic vocabulary and ensuring that your word choices are natural and contextually appropriate. Avoid repetitive phrasing and try to vary your descriptive language when discussing percentages and trends.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.0
You use a mix of simple and complex sentence structures, but there are frequent grammatical errors that affect the clarity of your writing. Examples include 'the full-time undergraduate uses the library most comparatively to the Academic staff' (incorrect comparative structure) and 'the most library users are very satisfied' (incorrect article usage). There are also issues with subject-verb agreement and punctuation, particularly with the use of commas and capitalization. While these errors do not completely impede communication, they are frequent enough to prevent a higher score. Focusing on sentence construction and proofreading for basic grammatical accuracy will be very beneficial.
