Student answer (Band 5.5)
The given pie chart and the table represent the findings of a survey of library users at a university.
Overall, it is apparent that, in the given data the full-time undergraduates use the library most compared to the Academic staff. Furthermore, the users are very satisfied with the staff in the library. However the availability of journals causes a negative impact on library.
To commence with, it is noticeable that particularly, full-time undergraduates are the one most interested in library taking 44% of proportion, then full-time postgraduate held 25% of area. Afterwards, only 16% of part-time postgraduates go into library. Whereas, distance learning students of all the courses and academic staff are 8% and 7% respectively. The most library users are very satisfied with staff help making it 95% leaving 5% to fairly satisfied, then the opening hours has satisfaction rating of 65% (very satisfied) and 35%(fairly satisfied). Availability of books and journals held almost same numbers of 50% and 45% for very satisfied, 40% and 35% for fairly satisfied, and some people are not satisfied with these two aspects by 10% and 20% respectively. wi-fi reliability is good.

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 5.5
You have successfully identified the main features of both the chart and the table. You provided a clear overview and supported your points with relevant data. However, the report lacks a more analytical approach to comparisons. For instance, while you listed the percentages for library users, you could have grouped them more effectively to highlight the disparity between undergraduates and other groups. Additionally, the data regarding satisfaction levels is presented as a list of figures rather than a comparative analysis. To reach a higher band, ensure that you not only report the numbers but also synthesize the information to draw clear comparisons between categories.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 5.5
The response is logically organized with a clear introduction, overview, and body paragraphs. You use some cohesive devices such as 'Furthermore', 'However', and 'To commence with' to link ideas. However, some transitions feel slightly mechanical or forced. The flow between sentences in the second paragraph is somewhat repetitive, relying heavily on listing figures. Improving the variety of linking phrases and ensuring that the progression of ideas feels more natural would enhance the coherence of the report. Paragraphing is used appropriately to separate the user categories from the satisfaction data.
Lexical Resource — Band 5.5
You demonstrate an adequate range of vocabulary for the task, such as 'apparent', 'proportion', and 'reliability'. However, there are instances of imprecise word choice and awkward phrasing, such as 'taking 44% of proportion' and 'held almost same numbers'. The phrase 'go into library' is also somewhat simplistic. To improve, focus on using more precise collocations related to data reporting, such as 'accounted for', 'represented', or 'constituted'. While your vocabulary is sufficient to convey the meaning, it lacks the flexibility and precision required for higher band scores.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.5
You use a mix of simple and complex sentence structures, but there are frequent grammatical errors that occasionally affect the flow. Examples include 'the full-time undergraduates use the library most compared to the Academic staff' (missing article/preposition usage), 'the most library users' (incorrect determiner), and 'wi-fi reliability is good' (lack of capitalization). There are also issues with punctuation, such as missing commas after introductory phrases. While these errors do not prevent the reader from understanding your message, they indicate a need for more careful proofreading and a better grasp of article usage and sentence structure.
