Categories of library users
Student answer (Band 7.0)
The pie chart illustrates the categories of library users, while the table demonstrates the results of a survey regarding library user satisfaction with distinct facilities at a university. The data has been calibrated into percentages.
Looking from an overall perspective, it is remarkable that full-time graduated scholars constituted the largest share of total library users. Regarding user satisfaction, the helpfulness of staff and library opening hours were the most positively received aspects, whereas the availability of journals experienced the highest level of dissatisfaction.
At first glance, looking at a pie chart, it is noticeable that the most significant portion goes to full-time undergraduates, making up 44%, with full-time postgraduates at 25%. Part-time postgraduates represented exactly 16% of the total dataset. Meanwhile, the percentages for distance learning and academic staff exhibited a near-equal distribution, sitting at 8% and 7%, respectively.
Moving next, as detailed in the table, the figures reveal library user satisfaction. Library opening hours and helpfulness of staff registered a zero-percent dissatisfaction rate, with 65% and 95% being very satisfied, respectively. In contrast, almost half of users were very satisfied with the availability of journals and reliability of wi-fi, representing 45% and 48%, respectively. The fair satisfaction of users toward the helpfulness of staff remained lowest at 5 percent only whereas justly contentment of accessibility to journals and opening hours of library remained almost similar at 35 percent.

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 7.0
The response effectively addresses all parts of the task. You have provided a clear overview of the main trends in both the pie chart and the table. The key features, such as the dominance of full-time undergraduates and the high satisfaction levels regarding staff helpfulness, are well-identified. You have also made relevant comparisons, such as contrasting the high satisfaction with staff against the dissatisfaction with journal availability. The data is accurately reported, and the structure allows for a logical flow of information. To reach a higher band, ensure that all data points are fully integrated into the comparative analysis rather than just listing them.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 7.0
The response is logically organized with a clear progression of ideas. Each paragraph has a distinct focus: the introduction, the overall summary, the pie chart data, and the table data. You have used a variety of cohesive devices such as 'Looking from an overall perspective', 'At first glance', and 'Meanwhile' to link your ideas effectively. The paragraphing is appropriate and contributes to the overall readability of the report. The flow between sentences is generally smooth, though some transitions could be slightly more sophisticated to enhance the overall coherence of the text.
Lexical Resource — Band 6.5
You have demonstrated a good range of vocabulary appropriate for an academic report. Phrases like 'calibrated into percentages', 'exhibited a near-equal distribution', and 'registered a zero-percent dissatisfaction rate' show a good level of precision. There are some minor awkward phrasings, such as 'justly contentment', which is not a standard collocation. However, the vocabulary used is sufficient to convey your meaning clearly and accurately throughout the response. To improve, focus on using more natural collocations and avoiding slightly forced phrasing.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 6.5
The response displays a good mix of simple and complex sentence structures. You have used a variety of grammatical forms, including passive voice and comparative structures, which are well-suited for this task. While there are a few minor errors, such as 'the fair satisfaction of users toward the helpfulness of staff remained lowest at 5 percent only', these do not impede communication. The majority of your sentences are error-free, and your control over punctuation is generally good. Continued practice with complex sentence construction will help you achieve even greater accuracy.
