The chart and table below show the results of a survey of library users at a university.
Summarise the information by selecting and reporting the main features, and make comparisons where relevant.
Categories of library users
Student answer (Band 6.0)
The pie chart and table illustrate the results of a university library survey of different categories of users regarding their level of satisfaction with five aspects of the library.
Overall, it is clear that full-time undergraduates accounted for the highest proportion, whereas the academic staff had the lowest share. By contrast, the helpfulness of staff recorded the highest proportion in terms of respondents' satisfaction, while the availability of journals and reliability of WiFi represented the worst results.
There were five categories in total in the survey. Full-time undergraduates accounted for the largest share, at around 44%, which makes them a dominant group. Full-time postgraduates were second-highest, standing at 25%. Whereas, Part-time postgraduates constituted 16% of the share. Distance learning in all courses was slightly higher than the remaining category with 8%. By contrast, academic staff had the lowest share with 7%.
The helpfulness of staff were appreciated by the respondents with the percentage of 95% and 5% with fairly satisfied respectively. Availability of books remained constant with 50% very satisfied users and 40% fair with 10% not satisfied. In contrast, availability of journals and reliability of WiFi were the worst among others with 45% and 48% each.

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.0
You have successfully identified the main features of the data and provided a clear overview. You covered both the categories of users and the satisfaction levels. However, the analysis of the satisfaction table is slightly underdeveloped. For instance, you mention the 'worst results' for journals and WiFi but do not explicitly compare these to the other categories in a way that highlights the full scope of the data. Additionally, the description of the satisfaction percentages is a bit mechanical and lacks a more analytical approach to the comparisons between the different satisfaction levels (very satisfied vs. not satisfied).
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.5
The essay is logically organized into clear paragraphs, with an introduction, an overview, and two body paragraphs. You use cohesive devices such as 'Overall', 'By contrast', and 'Whereas' to guide the reader. However, some transitions feel slightly repetitive, and the connection between sentences in the final paragraph could be smoother. For example, the jump between the helpfulness of staff and the availability of books is a bit abrupt. Improving the flow between these points would enhance the overall coherence of your response.
Lexical Resource — Band 6.0
You demonstrate a sufficient range of vocabulary to convey your ideas clearly. Phrases like 'accounted for the highest proportion' and 'constituted 16% of the share' are appropriate for a Task 1 report. However, there is some repetition of words like 'share' and 'percentage'. To reach a higher band, try to incorporate more varied synonyms or collocations related to data reporting, such as 'represented a significant portion' or 'the figures for... were notably lower'. The vocabulary is generally accurate and fits the context well.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.5
You use a mix of simple and complex sentence structures, which is good. However, there are some grammatical slips that affect the precision of your writing. For example, 'The helpfulness of staff were appreciated' should be 'was appreciated' (subject-verb agreement). Additionally, 'with the percentage of 95% and 5% with fairly satisfied respectively' is slightly awkward and grammatically unclear. While these errors do not impede communication, they prevent the essay from reaching a higher band. Focus on ensuring subject-verb agreement and refining prepositional phrases.
