Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 5.5
You have identified the main features of the data, such as the user categories and satisfaction levels. However, the report lacks a clear, analytical approach. For instance, in the section regarding 'subject books and journals,' your presentation of the data is confusing and lacks precision, making it difficult for the reader to follow the comparison. To improve, ensure you group information logically rather than listing figures sequentially. While you have covered the main parts of the prompt, the lack of a clear overview and the somewhat mechanical reporting of figures prevent this from reaching a higher band. Focus on synthesizing the data rather than just transcribing the numbers provided in the table.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.0
The response is organized into paragraphs, which helps the reader navigate the text. However, the use of cohesive devices is somewhat mechanical and repetitive (e.g., 'Firstly', 'Secondly', 'In the last'). The transition between sentences is occasionally abrupt, and the logical progression of ideas is hindered by the way the data is presented. For example, the jump from user categories to specific satisfaction percentages lacks a smooth introductory sentence to bridge the two distinct data sets. To improve, try using a wider variety of linking words and ensure that each paragraph has a clear thematic focus that flows naturally into the next.
Lexical Resource — Band 5.5
Your vocabulary is generally adequate for the task, but it lacks the precision and range required for a higher score. You rely on basic descriptors like 'various' and 'different' multiple times, which limits the sophistication of your writing. There are also some awkward collocations, such as 'academic stuff' (which should be 'academic staff') and 'most user are' (which should be 'most users are'). To improve, focus on using more precise terminology related to data analysis, such as 'proportion,' 'majority,' 'minority,' and 'significant,' and ensure you are using the correct plural forms to maintain grammatical accuracy throughout the report.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.5
You demonstrate a mix of simple and complex sentence structures, but there are frequent grammatical errors that occasionally impede the flow of information. For example, 'The table and pie chart depicts' should be 'depict' (subject-verb agreement), and 'are surveying at percentage 44%' is grammatically incorrect. Additionally, there are issues with article usage and prepositional phrases, such as 'using library' instead of 'using the library.' While the meaning is generally clear, these persistent errors in basic grammar and sentence construction prevent the writing from being considered fluent. Focus on proofreading for subject-verb agreement and consistent use of articles.
