Student answer (Band 6.0)

The pie chart displays the proportion of different kinds of students and academic staff members who use the libraries at the university, and the table contains the percentage of these individuals who are very satisfied, fairly satisfied, and not satisfied with numerous amenities available in the library.

Overall, the library is used the most by full-time undergraduates and the least by the academic staff at the university. Additionally, a significant amount of people were very satisfied with the helpfulness of the staff in the library followed by the opening hours and the availability of books in the library.

44% of the students were full-time undergraduates and 25% were full-time postgraduates using the library frequently. Part-time postgraduates were comparatively less with only 16%, the rest of the remaining proportion was used by the distance learning and academic staff.

Most of the people were very satisfied or fairly satisfied with all the different amenities provided by the library with only 10%, 20% 19% were not satisfied with availability of books, journals, and reliability of wi-fi, respectively.

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.0

The response covers all parts of the task by summarizing the user categories and the satisfaction levels. You have successfully identified the main features, such as the dominance of full-time undergraduates and the general satisfaction with staff helpfulness. However, the analysis could be improved by making more direct comparisons between the categories. For instance, you mention the percentages of user groups but do not explicitly contrast them (e.g., 'Full-time undergraduates were nearly three times as numerous as part-time postgraduates'). Additionally, the data regarding satisfaction levels is presented in a list-like fashion rather than being synthesized into a cohesive analytical summary. To reach a higher band, ensure you highlight the most significant trends and contrasts rather than just listing the figures.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.5

The response is logically organized with a clear introduction, overview, and body paragraphs. Paragraphing is used appropriately to separate the user categories from the satisfaction data. You use some cohesive devices such as 'Additionally' and 'followed by', which help the flow of information. However, the progression between sentences could be smoother. Some transitions feel slightly mechanical, and the connection between the two data sets (chart and table) could be more integrated. The use of referencing is generally clear, though some sentences, such as 'the rest of the remaining proportion was used by...', are slightly clunky and could be improved for better readability.

Lexical Resource — Band 5.5

You demonstrate an adequate range of vocabulary for the task, using terms like 'proportion', 'amenities', and 'reliability'. There are some minor issues with word choice, such as 'a significant amount of people' (which should be 'number of people' as people are countable) and 'the rest of the remaining proportion' (which is redundant). While you attempt to use some specific vocabulary related to the data, the range is somewhat limited. To improve, try to incorporate more precise academic collocations and avoid repetitive phrasing. The vocabulary is sufficient to convey your meaning clearly, but it lacks the sophistication required for a higher band score.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.5

You use a mix of simple and complex sentence structures. There are some grammatical errors, such as '10%, 20% 19% were not satisfied', which lacks a conjunction and proper punctuation. Additionally, the phrase 'the rest of the remaining proportion was used by the distance learning and academic staff' is slightly awkward in its construction. While these errors do not impede communication, they are noticeable. To achieve a higher score, focus on ensuring consistent subject-verb agreement and refining the use of punctuation in lists. Increasing the variety of complex sentence structures while maintaining accuracy will also help elevate your score.
