Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 5.0

The response covers the main features of the data, but the reporting is often confusing and inaccurate. For instance, the description of the table data is difficult to follow, and the interpretation of the figures is sometimes unclear, such as the mention of a 'decline by 1%' for academic staff, which is not supported by the data. While the response attempts to compare categories, the lack of clarity in presenting the percentages for satisfaction levels makes it difficult for the reader to grasp the key trends. To improve, focus on grouping related data points more logically and ensuring that the figures cited accurately reflect the provided charts.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 5.0

The essay is organised into paragraphs, but the progression of ideas is often disjointed. The use of cohesive devices is mechanical and sometimes inappropriate, such as 'Moving towards rest of information' or 'Apart from this'. Referencing is frequently unclear, making it hard to track which category or satisfaction level is being discussed. The sentences often lack logical flow, and the transition between the pie chart data and the table data is abrupt. Improving the use of linking words and ensuring that each paragraph has a clear focus would significantly enhance the coherence of the response.

Lexical Resource — Band 5.0

The range of vocabulary is limited and repetitive. There are several instances of awkward word choices and non-standard phrasing, such as 'calibrated in percentum', 'value being', and 'users of Library is how much satisfied'. The student relies on basic vocabulary and struggles with accurate collocations. While the meaning is generally conveyed, the lack of precision and the frequent errors in word choice hinder the overall quality of the writing. Expanding the range of vocabulary to include more precise terms for describing trends and data would be beneficial.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.0

The response contains frequent grammatical errors, including issues with subject-verb agreement ('the users of Library was satisfied'), article usage ('in Library opening hours'), and sentence structure. Many sentences are poorly constructed, making them difficult to read. There is a limited range of complex structures, and those that are attempted often contain errors. Punctuation is also inconsistent, particularly with the placement of commas and spacing. To reach a higher band, focus on mastering basic sentence construction and reducing the frequency of errors in tense and agreement.
