Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 5.5
The response covers the main features of the data, but the analysis is somewhat superficial. While you identified the categories of users and satisfaction levels, the comparison between groups is limited. For instance, you mention the percentages for full-time and part-time postgraduates but do not effectively contrast these figures. Furthermore, the final sentence regarding 'availability of journals' is inaccurate, as the provided data does not contain information about journals, only books, opening hours, and staff helpfulness. This indicates a failure to accurately report the provided information, which limits the score. To improve, ensure all data points are correctly interpreted and that comparisons are more analytical rather than just listing figures.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.0
The essay is organised into paragraphs, which helps the reader follow the structure. However, the use of cohesive devices is somewhat mechanical and repetitive, such as the frequent use of 'Firstly' and 'Secondly'. Some transitions are awkward, for example, 'In the term of opening hours the count of pupils was double who were very satisfied as compared to fairly fairly satisfied students.' This sentence structure is confusing and lacks logical flow. Improving the variety of linking words and ensuring that each paragraph has a clear topic sentence would enhance the overall coherence of your writing.
Lexical Resource — Band 6.0
You have an adequate range of vocabulary to convey the main points, such as 'utilised', 'satisfaction rate', and 'availability'. However, there are instances of imprecise word choice and awkward phrasing, such as 'the count of pupils was double who were very satisfied'. Additionally, there is a repetition of the word 'students' and 'pupils' which could be varied. The phrase 'other stream students' is also non-standard. To reach a higher band, focus on using more precise collocations and avoiding repetitive or unnatural phrasing.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.5
The response contains a mix of simple and complex sentence structures, but there are frequent grammatical errors that occasionally impede clarity. For example, 'the percentage of full-time postgraduates utilised the library facility was 25 which followed by part-time postgraduates' is grammatically incorrect. There are also issues with article usage and prepositions, such as 'In the term of opening hours'. Punctuation is generally acceptable, but the sentence structure needs more control to ensure accuracy. Focusing on subject-verb agreement and correct relative clause usage will help improve your grammatical accuracy.
