Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.5

The response successfully covers all parts of the task. You have identified the main features of the user categories and the satisfaction levels. The overview is clear, and the data is well-selected to support the main points. However, the report could be improved by making more direct comparisons between categories rather than just listing figures. For instance, noting that academic staff were the smallest group compared to the dominant undergraduate population would add depth. The summary of satisfaction levels is accurate, though ensure that all data points are clearly linked to their respective categories to avoid ambiguity.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.5

The response is logically organized with a clear introduction, overview, and body paragraphs. The use of cohesive devices such as 'First of all', 'Moving further', and 'In addition' helps guide the reader through the information. Paragraphing is used appropriately to separate the user categories from the satisfaction survey results. To reach a higher band, ensure that the transition between sentences is smoother; some sentences feel like a list of statistics. Using more varied referencing, such as 'the latter' or 'this figure', would improve the flow and reduce the repetitive nature of the sentence structures.

Lexical Resource — Band 6.0

You demonstrate an adequate range of vocabulary for the task, using terms like 'proportion', 'accounted for', and 'partaking'. However, there are some minor inaccuracies in word choice, such as 'representated' (should be 'represented') and 'displeasure' (which is slightly formal/unnatural in this context; 'dissatisfaction' would be better). The vocabulary is generally functional and allows for clear communication, but it lacks the sophistication and precision required for higher bands. Expanding your range to include more varied reporting verbs and adverbs would enhance the quality of your writing.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 6.0

The response uses a mix of simple and complex sentence structures. There are some grammatical errors, such as 'Maximum students were very satisfied' (should be 'The majority of students') and 'The data is representated' (should be 'represented'). While these errors do not impede communication, they occur frequently enough to prevent a higher score. You have a good grasp of basic sentence construction, but to improve, focus on ensuring subject-verb agreement and using more varied complex structures, such as relative clauses or participial phrases, to combine related ideas more effectively.
