Student answer (Band 6.0)

The pie chart and table depicts the diverse range of library users and their reviews for the facilities in the library at a university.

Overall, full-time undergraduates and postgraduates accounts for the major use of the library, with the staff members being the least. Maximum members are highly satisfied with the helpful staff followed by nearly half of them fairly satisfied to availability of books. In contrast, people complained about the unavailability of journals and reliable network.

Full-time undergraduates consisted of almost half of the members with 44% of the total. Full-time postgraduates stood at 25% along with part-time one's with 16%. Students enrolled for distance learning shared 8% with the least being the academic staff at only 7%.

A major percentage of people nearly 95% were very satisfied with the supporting librarians along with 40% of members being fairly satisfied with access to a number of varied books. Although, nearly 20% and 19% of pupil were unsatisfied about the journals and wi-fi services respectively while a notable share of people showed satisfaction for the same.

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.5

You have successfully identified the main features of both the chart and the table. You provided a clear overview and supported your points with relevant data from the prompt. However, there is a minor issue with data interpretation: you mentioned that 95% were 'very satisfied' with librarians, but the table actually shows 95% satisfaction with 'helpful staff'. Additionally, the comparison regarding the 'unavailability of journals' could be more precise by referencing the specific percentages provided in the table. Overall, you have covered all parts of the task well, though a more careful check of the data labels would improve accuracy.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.0

The response is logically organized into four paragraphs, which helps the reader follow your points. You use some cohesive devices such as 'In contrast', 'Overall', and 'Although' to link ideas. However, the transition between the second and third paragraphs is a bit abrupt. Some cohesive devices are used slightly mechanically, and the referencing could be smoother. For instance, the phrase 'for the same' at the end of the final paragraph is a bit vague. Improving the variety of linking words and ensuring that each paragraph has a clear thematic focus would elevate your score in this criterion.

Lexical Resource — Band 5.5

You demonstrate an adequate range of vocabulary for the task, such as 'diverse range', 'satisfied', and 'unavailability'. There are some minor errors in word choice and collocation, such as 'accounts for the major use' (should be 'account for the majority of users') and 'pupil' (which is inappropriate for university students; 'respondents' or 'users' would be better). You attempt to use some less common vocabulary, but the precision is occasionally lacking. To reach a higher band, focus on using more academic collocations and ensuring that your word choices are contextually accurate for a formal report.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.5

You use a mix of simple and complex sentence structures. There are several grammatical errors that occur throughout the text, such as subject-verb agreement issues ('postgraduates accounts', 'Full-time undergraduates consisted of almost half... with 44%'), and incorrect pluralization ('part-time one's'). While these errors do not impede communication, they are frequent enough to prevent a higher score. You should focus on proofreading for basic agreement and punctuation errors. Increasing the variety of complex structures while maintaining accuracy will help you achieve a higher band in this area.
