The chart and table below show the results of a survey of library users at a university.
Summarise the information by selecting and reporting the main features, and make comparisons where relevant.
Categories of library users
Student answer (Band 7.0)
The charts display the categories of library users at a university and their satisfaction regarding five different aspects, based on a survey.
Regarding the individuals who used the library, full-time undergraduate students accounted for the largest share of 44% amongst all. Full-time postgraduates accounted for only a quarter, while part-time postgraduates had a share if just 16%. Academic staff and distance learners used the library the least, with 7% and 8% share respectively.
Moreover, the survey classified user satisfaction into three categories, namely, very satisfied, fairly satisfied and not satisfied. 65% of users marked very satisfied regarding the library opening hours, while 35% of people marked fairly satisfied. 95% of people were completely satisfied with the help that the staff provided and just 5% users accounted for fairly satisfied. No user was found to be dissatisfied in the first two aspects. Availability of books had closely comparable figures, with 50% users marking very satisfied and 40% marking fairly satisfied, however, 10% people were also found dissatisfied. Availability of journals had 5% less figures for both the satisfied classes and 10% more dissatisfied users than the numbers for the category of books availability. Meanwhile, wi-fi was found very satisfactory to 48% users and fairly satisfactory to 33% , while 19% of them were found not satisfied with it.
Overall, full-time undergraduate students used the university library the most and the majority of library users were found to be very satisfied with the helpfulness of the staff and library opening hours. However, some people were dissatisfied with the books and journal availability and reliability of the wi-fi.

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 7.0
You have successfully identified and reported the main features of both the chart and the table. You provided a clear overview and supported your points with accurate data from the source. To reach a higher band, ensure you make more direct comparisons between categories rather than listing them sequentially. For instance, instead of describing the satisfaction levels for each aspect in isolation, you could group them by high and low satisfaction levels to highlight the contrast more effectively. Overall, you have covered all parts of the task well and provided a clear, logical summary.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 7.0
The response is logically organized, with a clear introduction, body paragraphs, and a summary. You use cohesive devices such as 'Moreover', 'Meanwhile', and 'However' to link ideas effectively. Paragraphing is used appropriately to separate the two distinct data sets (user categories and satisfaction levels). The progression of ideas is clear throughout the text. To improve further, ensure that referencing is always precise; for example, when you mention 'the first two aspects', it is clear, but ensure that all comparisons are explicitly linked to the specific data points to avoid any ambiguity for the reader.
Lexical Resource — Band 6.5
You demonstrate a sufficient range of vocabulary to convey information with precision. Phrases like 'accounted for the largest share' and 'closely comparable figures' are used effectively. There are some minor issues with word choice, such as '5% less figures', which is slightly unnatural; '5% lower' or 'a 5% decrease' would be more appropriate. You successfully use topic-specific vocabulary related to surveys and statistics. To reach a higher band, try to incorporate more sophisticated collocations and avoid repetitive phrasing when describing percentages and trends.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 6.5
You use a mix of simple and complex sentence structures, and the majority of your sentences are error-free. Your control over grammar and punctuation is generally good. There are occasional minor inaccuracies, such as 'share if just 16%' (should be 'of') and '5% less figures', but these do not impede communication. You demonstrate the ability to use complex structures, such as 'while 19% of them were found not satisfied', which shows good control. To improve, focus on ensuring consistent subject-verb agreement and refining the use of articles and prepositions in comparative structures.
