Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 5.5
The response covers the main features of the data, such as the dominant user group (undergraduates) and the general satisfaction levels. However, the report lacks precision. For example, stating '95 percent people were very satisfied' is inaccurate based on typical survey data interpretation, and the summary of the table is somewhat disjointed. The response identifies key trends but fails to make meaningful comparisons between the categories or effectively synthesize the data from the chart and table. To reach a higher band, ensure that all data points are accurately transcribed and that the relationship between user categories and satisfaction levels is clearly articulated.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 5.0
The essay is organized into paragraphs, but the flow of ideas is hindered by poor punctuation and a lack of cohesive devices. Sentences are often run-on or lack necessary conjunctions, such as in the second paragraph where multiple ideas are crowded into single sentences without clear transitions. The use of linking words is minimal and sometimes misused, such as 'afterwards' to describe data ranking. To improve, focus on using a wider range of cohesive devices (e.g., 'furthermore', 'in contrast', 'consequently') and ensure that each paragraph has a clear topic sentence to guide the reader through the information.
Lexical Resource — Band 5.0
The vocabulary is generally adequate to convey the basic meaning, but it is repetitive and lacks the precision required for an academic report. Phrases like 'different sections of the scholars' and 'second numbers' are unnatural and imprecise. There are also errors in word choice, such as using 'pleasant' to describe people rather than their level of satisfaction. To improve, you should aim to use more academic collocations and precise terminology related to data description, such as 'proportion', 'majority', 'minority', and 'fluctuate', rather than relying on general-purpose language.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.0
The response contains frequent grammatical errors, particularly regarding subject-verb agreement ('the following pie chart and the table illustrates') and sentence structure. Many sentences are fragmented or lack proper punctuation, making them difficult to follow. There is a limited range of complex structures, and the attempts made are often marred by errors. For instance, the phrase 'not much were happy' is grammatically incorrect. To improve, focus on mastering basic sentence construction, ensuring subjects and verbs agree, and using commas and periods correctly to separate distinct ideas.
