Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 5.0
The response fails to meet the minimum word count requirement of 150 words, which significantly impacts the ability to fully develop the response. While you have identified some key features, such as the percentages for user categories and satisfaction levels, the analysis is incomplete. The final sentence is unfinished, and you have not provided a clear overview or a comprehensive comparison of the data provided in the table. To improve, ensure you cover all parts of the prompt, provide a clear summary of trends, and ensure the response is of sufficient length to allow for a full analysis of the data.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 5.5
The essay is organised into paragraphs, but the flow of ideas is disjointed. While you use some cohesive devices like 'Furthermore' and 'At a fleeting glance', the connection between sentences is often weak. The final paragraph ends abruptly, which disrupts the logical progression of the report. To improve, focus on using a wider range of linking words to connect your ideas more smoothly and ensure that each paragraph has a clear topic sentence. Additionally, avoid ending the response mid-sentence, as this severely hinders the overall coherence of your writing.
Lexical Resource — Band 5.0
The range of vocabulary is limited and repetitive. There are several spelling errors, such as 'statisfaction' and 'acedemic', which detract from the professional tone required for an Academic Task 1 response. You rely on basic vocabulary to describe the data. To reach a higher band, you should aim to use more precise terminology for describing trends and proportions, such as 'account for', 'constitute', or 'a significant proportion'. Improving your spelling and using a more varied vocabulary will help you communicate your observations more effectively.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.0
There are frequent grammatical errors throughout the text, including issues with subject-verb agreement (e.g., 'categories... was 7%') and article usage. The sentence structures are relatively simple, and the attempt at more complex structures is often marred by errors. Punctuation is also inconsistent, with missing spaces after periods and incorrect capitalization. To improve, focus on mastering basic sentence construction, ensuring that subjects and verbs agree, and proofreading your work to correct minor slips in punctuation and articles. Increasing the variety of your sentence structures will also help improve your score.
