Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 5.0

The response addresses the task by summarizing the provided data, but it lacks a clear overview of the main trends. While you mention specific percentages, the report is somewhat disjointed. The second paragraph is incomplete, as it begins with a sentence fragment ('In the given pie chart the total percent...'). Furthermore, the description of the data is occasionally inaccurate or confusing, such as the claim that academic staff are in the library 'to help the students'. You should focus on reporting the data objectively without adding external assumptions. To improve, ensure you provide a clear summary of the most significant features in the introduction or as a separate overview paragraph.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 5.0

The response is organized into paragraphs, but the logical progression is weak. The transition between the two main body paragraphs is abrupt, and the use of cohesive devices is limited and sometimes mechanical, such as the repetitive use of 'while' and 'also'. Some sentences are poorly constructed, making it difficult to follow the flow of information. For instance, the second paragraph lacks a main verb, which disrupts the coherence of the entire section. To improve, use a wider variety of linking words and ensure that each paragraph has a clear topic sentence that guides the reader through the data.

Lexical Resource — Band 5.0

The vocabulary is generally adequate for the task but lacks precision and variety. You rely on basic phrasing such as 'getting many more information' and 'different things', which are imprecise. There are also issues with word choice and collocation, such as 'outcome of the inquiry of finding the ratio' and 'might thought of the changing'. To reach a higher band, you should aim to use more academic collocations and precise terminology related to data description, such as 'proportion', 'account for', or 'the majority of'. Avoid informal phrasing and ensure that your word choices are contextually appropriate.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.0

There is a mix of simple and complex sentence structures, but the accuracy is inconsistent. You frequently make errors in subject-verb agreement and tense usage, such as '35% of the students might thought' and 'the ratio of postgraduate people reaches'. Punctuation is also problematic, with missing spaces after commas and periods. Some sentences are grammatically incomplete or awkward, which hinders clarity. To improve, focus on mastering basic sentence structures and proofreading for common errors like verb tense consistency and article usage. Increasing the variety of complex structures while maintaining accuracy will help you achieve a higher score.
