Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 5.5

The response covers the main features of both the chart and the table, but the analysis is somewhat superficial. While you identified the highest and lowest categories, the comparisons are limited. For instance, you mention the percentage of full-time undergraduates but do not effectively contrast this with the other groups. Furthermore, the interpretation of the table data is slightly inaccurate; you describe the figures as 'satisfied' or 'not satisfied' without clear evidence that the survey measured satisfaction levels specifically. To improve, ensure you group data logically and provide a more analytical overview rather than simply listing figures. The inclusion of personal commentary about 'youngsters' being disappointed is irrelevant to the data provided and should be avoided in an Academic Task 1 response.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.0

The response is organised into paragraphs, which helps the reader follow the structure. However, the use of cohesive devices is often mechanical and sometimes inaccurate. Phrases like 'As well as' and 'In addition' are used, but the flow between sentences is frequently disjointed. The referencing is occasionally unclear, such as in the final paragraph where the connection between the data and the conclusion about 'youngsters' is abrupt. To reach a higher band, focus on using a wider range of linking words more naturally and ensure that each paragraph has a clear, singular focus that transitions smoothly into the next.

Lexical Resource — Band 5.5

The vocabulary is generally adequate for the task but lacks the precision required for a higher score. You rely on repetitive phrasing, such as 'will be' to describe data, which is not appropriate for reporting facts. There are also some awkward collocations, such as 'the helpfulness of staff will be more satisfied', which is grammatically and semantically incorrect. To improve, use a wider range of reporting verbs and nouns related to data analysis, such as 'account for', 'represent', or 'proportion'. Avoid informal language and ensure that your word choices accurately reflect the information presented in the charts.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.0

The response contains frequent grammatical errors that occasionally impede clarity. There is a persistent misuse of future tense ('will be') to describe static data, which should be reported in the present tense. Additionally, there are issues with articles ('In pie chart' instead of 'In the pie chart') and subject-verb agreement ('individuals are increases'). While you attempt some complex structures, they are often faulty. To improve, focus on mastering basic sentence structures and ensuring consistent tense usage when describing data. Proofreading for common errors like missing articles and incorrect verb forms will significantly enhance the quality of your writing.
