Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.5
The response successfully covers all parts of the task by summarizing both the pie chart and the table. You have identified the main features, such as the highest and lowest categories of users and the key satisfaction levels. The overview is clear and provides a good summary of the data. To reach a higher band, ensure that all comparisons are fully developed; for instance, when mentioning the satisfaction levels, you could group the data more effectively to highlight the contrast between the high satisfaction with staff and the lower satisfaction with resources. Overall, the information is accurate and relevant to the prompt.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.0
The response is logically organized with a clear introduction, an overview, and two body paragraphs. The progression of ideas is easy to follow. You use some cohesive devices, such as 'however', 'by contrast', and 'although', to link information. However, some transitions feel slightly mechanical, and the use of 'although' at the beginning of sentences is sometimes grammatically awkward. Improving the variety of linking words and ensuring that referencing (e.g., 'the latter', 'the former') is used more precisely would enhance the flow of the text and make the connections between ideas more sophisticated.
Lexical Resource — Band 5.5
You demonstrate an adequate range of vocabulary for the task, using terms like 'accounted for', 'proportion', and 'satisfaction results'. There are some minor inaccuracies in word choice, such as '40% was fairly satisfied' (should be '40% of users were') and 'not satisfied with availability of journals'. To improve, try to incorporate more precise collocations and avoid repetitive phrasing. The vocabulary is sufficient to convey your meaning clearly, but it lacks the flexibility and precision required for a higher band score. Expanding your repertoire of reporting verbs and descriptive adjectives would be beneficial.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.5
The response contains a mix of simple and complex sentence structures. While the meaning is generally clear, there are several grammatical errors, such as missing articles ('used library' instead of 'used the library') and issues with subject-verb agreement or preposition usage ('95% users were satisfied' instead of '95% of users'). Punctuation is generally acceptable, but there are some awkward phrasings that slightly impede the natural flow of the text. To improve, focus on article usage and ensuring that your complex sentences are constructed with greater accuracy.
