Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 7.5
You have successfully identified and reported the main features of both the pie chart and the table. The overview clearly highlights the most significant data points, such as the largest user group and the extremes of satisfaction. You have also made relevant comparisons, such as contrasting the high satisfaction with staff helpfulness against the dissatisfaction regarding journal availability. The data is accurately presented, and the response covers all parts of the task effectively. To reach a higher band, you could aim to integrate the data more fluidly rather than listing percentages in separate paragraphs, perhaps by grouping categories that share similar satisfaction levels.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 7.5
The response is logically organized, with a clear introduction, an overview, and two body paragraphs that separate the user categories from the satisfaction levels. The progression of ideas is smooth, and you have used cohesive devices such as 'while,' 'followed by,' 'respectively,' and 'in comparison' effectively to link information. Paragraphing is used appropriately to manage different aspects of the data. The flow is natural, and the relationship between the different parts of the prompt is easy to follow throughout the text.
Lexical Resource — Band 6.5
You have used a sufficient range of vocabulary to convey the information accurately. Terms such as 'proportion,' 'accounted for,' 'represented,' and 'dissatisfaction' are used correctly and in the right context. The use of 'respectively' shows a good grasp of how to handle multiple data points efficiently. While the vocabulary is accurate and appropriate for an Academic Task 1, it remains somewhat functional. To achieve a higher score, you could incorporate more sophisticated synonyms or varied ways to describe trends and proportions to demonstrate a wider lexical range.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 7.5
Your writing displays a good variety of sentence structures, including complex sentences using subordinate clauses. The grammar is highly accurate, and there are no significant errors that impede communication. You have used punctuation correctly, and the control over verb tenses is consistent with the requirements of reporting data. The majority of your sentences are error-free, which demonstrates a strong command of English grammar. To move toward a higher band, you could experiment with more advanced structures, such as passive voice constructions or participle phrases, to further enhance the sophistication of your writing.
