Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 5.0

The response attempts to address the task by summarizing the provided data. However, the information is presented in a fragmented manner, and the key features are not clearly highlighted or compared effectively. The overview is weak and lacks a clear summary of the main trends. While the figures are included, the interpretation is often confusing, such as the phrase 'academic staff are 7% students spen their time.' The response fails to synthesize the data into a coherent report, leading to a lack of clarity in the overall message. To improve, focus on grouping data logically and providing a clear, concise overview of the most significant findings.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 5.0

The essay is organized into paragraphs, but the logical progression of ideas is frequently interrupted by grammatical errors and awkward phrasing. Cohesive devices are used in a very limited and sometimes mechanical way, such as the repetitive use of 'However' and 'Furthermore' at the start of sentences. The referencing is often unclear, making it difficult for the reader to follow the connection between the categories and the percentages. The final sentence is particularly disjointed, failing to provide a logical conclusion to the report. Improving the use of linking words and ensuring each paragraph has a clear focus would significantly enhance the flow.

Lexical Resource — Band 5.0

The vocabulary is quite limited and repetitive. There are frequent errors in word choice and spelling, such as 'undergraducate', 'qaulitiy', and 'leraning'. The student relies on basic vocabulary to describe the data, such as 'spend time' or 'satisfied', which does not demonstrate the range required for higher bands. There is little evidence of the ability to use less common lexical items or precise collocations related to data interpretation. To improve, the student should focus on learning topic-specific vocabulary for describing charts and tables, such as 'proportion', 'majority', 'minority', and 'fluctuate'.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.0

The response contains frequent grammatical errors that often impede communication. There are significant issues with subject-verb agreement (e.g., 'The chart and table illustrates'), sentence structure, and word order. Many sentences are fragmented or lack necessary articles and prepositions, making the text difficult to read. There is a lack of complex sentence structures, and the attempts at them are often faulty. To improve, the student needs to focus on basic sentence construction, ensuring that subjects and verbs agree and that sentences are complete thoughts. Proofreading for common errors like missing articles and incorrect verb forms is essential.
