Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 5.5

The response covers the main features of both the chart and the table, providing a clear overview. However, the data reporting is inconsistent and contains inaccuracies. For instance, the student mentions 'nearly the quarter- half percentage' for part-time postgraduates, which is confusing and lacks precision. The description of the table data is also somewhat muddled, particularly regarding the 'journals and reliability of wi-fi' section, where the figures are difficult to follow. While the main trends are identified, the lack of clarity in data presentation prevents a higher score. To improve, ensure that all figures are stated clearly and that comparisons are made with greater precision.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 5.5

The essay is organised into paragraphs, which helps the reader follow the structure. However, the use of cohesive devices is often mechanical or awkward, such as 'Coming to the table' and 'Thus, 5% were fairly satisfied'. The transition between sentences is sometimes abrupt, and the final sentence of the second paragraph is incomplete, which disrupts the flow of information. While there is a logical progression from the pie chart to the table, the lack of sophisticated linking words and the occasional grammatical error in referencing make the cohesion feel somewhat disjointed.

Lexical Resource — Band 5.5

The vocabulary used is generally adequate for the task, but it lacks the precision required for a higher band. There are several instances of awkward phrasing, such as 'accounted 44% of whole students' (should be 'accounted for 44% of the total number of students') and 'stood m half percent'. The repetition of 'satisfied' and 'fairly satisfied' is expected given the source material, but the student struggles to incorporate more varied descriptive language. Spelling errors, such as 'post graduated' instead of 'postgraduates', also detract from the overall quality of the lexical resource.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.5

The response contains a mix of simple and complex sentence structures, but there are frequent errors in grammar and punctuation that occasionally impede clarity. Examples include missing articles ('visited the library least'), incorrect verb forms ('full-time Undergraduate Students shows'), and punctuation issues (the incomplete sentence at the end of the second paragraph). While the meaning is generally understandable, the high frequency of minor errors in basic sentence construction prevents the response from reaching a higher band. Focusing on subject-verb agreement and the correct use of articles would significantly improve the accuracy of the writing.
