Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 7.0
The response effectively addresses all parts of the task. You have successfully identified the main features of both the pie chart and the table, providing a clear overview and supporting details. The comparison between user categories and satisfaction levels is well-integrated. To reach a higher band, ensure that the overview is more distinct and analytical; for instance, noting the inverse relationship between the size of the user group and their satisfaction levels could provide a more sophisticated summary. Overall, the data is accurately reported and the key trends are highlighted clearly.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.5
The response is logically organized, with a clear progression from the overview to specific data points. Paragraphing is used effectively to separate the user categories from the satisfaction metrics. Cohesive devices such as 'In contrast', 'Regarding', and 'followed by' are used appropriately to guide the reader. However, the flow could be improved by using more varied linking phrases to avoid a slightly mechanical feel. For example, instead of starting multiple sentences with 'followed by', you could use relative clauses or participial phrases to integrate these points more smoothly into the narrative.
Lexical Resource — Band 6.0
You demonstrate a sufficient range of vocabulary to convey information with precision, such as 'accounted for', 'proportion', and 'dissatisfaction'. There are some minor issues with collocation and word choice, such as 'made up of small proportion' (should be 'made up a small proportion') and 'Majority of the users' (should be 'The majority of users'). While these errors do not impede communication, they prevent the response from reaching the highest bands. Expanding your repertoire to include more sophisticated synonyms for 'showed' or 'represented' would enhance the lexical quality.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 6.0
The response uses a mix of simple and complex sentence structures. While the majority of sentences are clear, there are some grammatical inaccuracies, such as 'academic staff made up of small proportion' and 'Part-time post-graduates students made up of 18%'. These errors are minor and do not cause confusion, but they indicate a need for more careful proofreading regarding prepositions and pluralization. The use of punctuation is generally accurate, and the sentence variety is sufficient for the task requirements.
