Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.5
The response effectively summarizes the main features shown in the pie chart and table, presenting clear comparisons between different categories of library users and satisfaction levels. The introduction clearly states the content but could improve by mentioning both aspects of the data (user categories and satisfaction) in more detail. The key details such as the percentages are included appropriately, but providing context for the numbers would enhance the summary. Overall, this response meets the task requirements well, but slight improvements in detail could boost its effectiveness.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.5
The organization of the response is logical, as it presents the information in a coherent manner. The use of linking words like 'whereas', 'in contrast', and 'similarly' helps the flow of ideas and establishes clear comparisons. However, some sentences are slightly abrupt and could benefit from a more seamless integration of ideas. For instance, the transition between the categories of users and satisfaction ratings might flow better with additional linking phrases. Overall, coherence and cohesion are strong but need minor adjustments for optimal clarity.
Lexical Resource — Band 6.5
The lexical resource used throughout the response is appropriate, with terms like 'constitute,' 'appreciate,' and 'express dissatisfaction' showcasing a good range of vocabulary. However, some phrases, like 'receive the lowest rating' and 'most negative feedback,' could be improved to reflect a higher lexical sophistication. Expanding vocabulary choices would elevate the overall tone of the work. Though generally effective, there is room for the use of more varied language to enhance academic tone and richness.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 6.5
The grammatical range and accuracy are generally sound, with complex sentences and a good mix of simple forms. The response uses correct subject-verb agreement and has no major grammatical errors. However, there are minor issues, such as "availability of journals receive the lowest rating," which should read "receives" for grammatical accuracy. Additionally, some sentence structures could be varied to demonstrate a wider range of grammatical forms. Overall, the use of grammar is strong but could be polished further for a higher score.
Overall feedback
This response demonstrates a good understanding of the task requirements, providing key details regarding both the categories of library users and their satisfaction levels. The logical flow of information and the use of connecting phrases contribute to a coherent structure. To improve, focus on enhancing vocabulary choices for a more sophisticated tone and ensure that grammatical accuracy is maintained throughout. Additionally, providing more context around the percentages and statistics would strengthen the depth of the analysis, leading to a more comprehensive summary of the data presented.
