Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 5.5
The response addresses the task by identifying the main features of the data. However, the presentation is inconsistent. You have successfully extracted key figures, but the report lacks a clear, analytical structure. The overview is very brief and does not fully capture the significant trends or contrasts between the categories. Furthermore, there are inaccuracies in the data reporting, such as misinterpreting the chart types (referring to a table as a line graph) and some confusion in the presentation of percentages. To improve, ensure you clearly group related data and provide a more comprehensive summary of the most striking differences or similarities across the categories.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 5.0
The essay is organised into paragraphs, but the flow of information is disjointed. The use of cohesive devices is very limited and often mechanical, making the transition between sentences feel abrupt. For instance, the start of each paragraph lacks a clear logical progression. Referencing is sometimes unclear, and the lack of linking words makes it difficult to follow the comparison of data points. To improve, use a wider range of linking phrases such as 'in contrast', 'furthermore', or 'conversely' to connect your ideas and guide the reader through the data more effectively.
Lexical Resource — Band 5.5
The vocabulary is somewhat repetitive and basic. You rely heavily on simple phrasing like 'the percentage of' and 'users were'. There are also issues with word choice and collocation, such as 'parts of library users' instead of 'categories of library users' and 'none satisfied' instead of 'not satisfied'. While the vocabulary is sufficient to convey the basic meaning, it lacks the precision and variety required for a higher band. Attempting to use more sophisticated synonyms for 'show', 'increase', or 'satisfied' would enhance the quality of your writing.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.0
The response contains frequent grammatical errors, particularly regarding subject-verb agreement (e.g., 'table represent', 'users who was') and punctuation. Sentence structures are mostly simple, and there is a lack of complex sentence forms. The misuse of articles and inconsistent formatting of percentages also detract from the clarity of the report. While the meaning is generally understandable, the high frequency of errors in basic structures limits the score. Focusing on proofreading for subject-verb agreement and varying your sentence structure by using subordinate clauses would significantly improve your accuracy and range.
