Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 5.0
The response covers the main features of the chart and table, but it fails to meet the minimum word count requirement of 150 words. While you have identified the key categories and satisfaction levels, the analysis is somewhat mechanical and lacks a cohesive synthesis of the data. The under-length penalty significantly impacts the score, as the task instructions were not fully met. To improve, ensure you provide a more detailed overview and expand on the comparisons between the different user categories and their satisfaction levels to ensure you comfortably exceed the word count threshold.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.0
The essay is organised into paragraphs, which helps the reader follow the structure. However, the use of cohesive devices is somewhat repetitive and occasionally awkward, such as the use of 'moreover' and 'respectively' in ways that do not always flow naturally. The transition between the pie chart data and the table data is abrupt. To improve, use a wider variety of linking words and ensure that each paragraph has a clear topic sentence that guides the reader through the information presented.
Lexical Resource — Band 5.5
The vocabulary is adequate for the task but lacks precision and variety. There are several spelling errors, such as 'satisfication' and 'statisfication', and some awkward phrasing like 'major in fairly satisfied'. You rely on basic descriptors and struggle with accurate collocations. To reach a higher band, focus on using more precise academic vocabulary to describe trends, such as 'constitute', 'account for', or 'predominant', and ensure you proofread for basic spelling errors which detract from the professional tone of your report.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.5
The response contains a mix of simple and some attempted complex structures. However, there are frequent grammatical errors, including missing articles ('the full-time undergraduate'), subject-verb agreement issues ('table provide', 'helpfulness of staff have'), and punctuation errors. These errors are noticeable and occasionally impede the flow of the text. To improve, focus on mastering basic sentence construction, particularly subject-verb agreement and the correct use of articles, before attempting more complex grammatical structures.
