Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 5.5

The response covers the main features of the data, including the categories of library users and the satisfaction levels. However, the analysis of the table is somewhat superficial. For instance, the description of the 'reliability of wi-fi' and 'library opening hours' is slightly confusing, as the data in the table likely represents a breakdown of satisfaction levels (e.g., very satisfied, satisfied, not satisfied) rather than a trend over time. The student misinterprets the static table data as a 'downward trend' or a change over time, which indicates a misunderstanding of the data presentation. While the main features are identified, the interpretation lacks the necessary precision required for a higher band.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 5.5

The essay is organised into logical paragraphs, with an introduction, an overview, and body paragraphs for the chart and table respectively. However, the use of cohesive devices is somewhat mechanical and occasionally inaccurate. For example, the phrase 'in the the pie chart' contains a repetition error, and the transition between the two body paragraphs is abrupt. While the progression of ideas is generally clear, the referencing is sometimes weak, and the overall flow could be improved with more varied linking words to connect the data points more fluidly.

Lexical Resource — Band 5.5

The vocabulary is adequate for the task but lacks precision and variety. There are several spelling errors, such as 'proportation' (proportion), 'opennig' (opening), and 'porprotation' (proportion). Additionally, word choice is occasionally awkward, such as 'the least preferable choice was academic staff' and 'the most popular sector were full-time undergraduate'. The range of vocabulary is limited, and the student relies on basic descriptors. To improve, the student should focus on accurate spelling and using more sophisticated collocations to describe statistical data.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.5

The response contains a mix of simple and complex sentence structures, but there are frequent grammatical errors that occasionally impede clarity. Examples include subject-verb agreement issues ('the most popular sector were', 'the least satisfied user were') and missing articles or prepositions. Punctuation is generally functional, but the sentence structure is often repetitive. While the meaning is usually clear, the frequency of errors in basic grammar prevents the response from reaching a higher band. More attention to pluralisation and verb agreement is necessary.
