Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 7.0
The response effectively addresses the task by summarizing the main features of both the pie chart and the table. You have successfully identified the key trends, such as the highest and lowest proportions of users and the most/least satisfactory aspects of the library. The comparisons are clear and relevant, such as contrasting the full-time undergraduates with academic staff. To reach a higher band, ensure you include all data points or categories if possible, or provide a more comprehensive overview of the data relationships. The current summary is accurate and covers the requirements well.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 7.5
The response is logically organized with a clear introduction, an overview, and two body paragraphs focusing on the chart and the table respectively. Cohesive devices such as 'Overall', 'To begin with', 'Additionally', and 'Furthermore' are used effectively to guide the reader through the information. The progression of ideas is smooth, and the paragraphing is appropriate for a report of this length. The structure is clear and easy to follow, meeting the criteria for a well-organized response.
Lexical Resource — Band 7.0
You have used a sufficient range of vocabulary to convey the information accurately. Phrases like 'highest proportion', 'accounted for', and 'levels of satisfaction' are appropriate for this task. While the vocabulary is functional and precise, it lacks a wider range of less common lexical items that would demonstrate more sophisticated control. The word choices are accurate throughout, and there are no spelling errors. To improve, try incorporating more varied synonyms for 'proportion' or 'represented' to enhance the lexical variety.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 7.0
The response demonstrates a good control of grammatical structures. You have successfully used a mix of simple and complex sentences, such as 'full-time undergraduates constituted the largest proportion... while academic staff accounted for only 7%'. Punctuation is generally accurate, and there are no significant errors that impede communication. The grammar is consistent and reliable. To aim for a higher band, you could experiment with more complex sentence structures, such as using participle clauses or more varied subordinating conjunctions to link ideas even more fluidly.
