Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.0
The response covers all parts of the task by summarizing the pie chart and the table. You successfully identified the main features, such as the dominant group of undergraduates and the contrast between high satisfaction with staff and lower satisfaction with facilities like journals and Wi-Fi. However, there is a significant data error where you wrote '255' instead of '25%', and the introductory sentence is grammatically fragmented and lacks a clear overview. While the key features are highlighted, the overview could be more effectively integrated to provide a clearer summary of the trends rather than just listing percentages.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.0
The essay is organized into logical paragraphs, moving from the user categories to the satisfaction levels. You use some cohesive devices such as 'In contrast', 'Similarly', and 'Overall', which help the flow of information. However, the transition between the introduction and the first body paragraph is abrupt, and the opening sentence is poorly constructed, which affects the overall coherence. Paragraphing is used appropriately to separate the two distinct data sets, but the internal cohesion within the paragraphs could be improved by using a wider variety of linking words to connect the data points more fluidly.
Lexical Resource — Band 6.0
You demonstrate an adequate range of vocabulary for the task, using terms like 'dominant group', 'comprised', and 'respectively'. However, there are several spelling errors throughout the text, such as 'udergraduate', 'revelas', 'staisfed', and 'staisfaction'. These errors are frequent enough to be noticeable, though they do not impede communication. To reach a higher band, you should focus on accuracy in spelling and attempt to use more precise collocations when describing data trends, rather than relying on simple verbs like 'show' or 'accounted for'.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.5
The response uses a mix of simple and complex sentence structures. While you successfully use comparative structures, there are frequent grammatical errors, particularly with subject-verb agreement (e.g., 'full time udergraduate library users is 44%') and missing articles. Punctuation is also inconsistent, with some run-on sentences and missing commas. While the meaning remains clear, the frequency of these errors prevents the writing from reaching a higher band. Focusing on proofreading for basic agreement and punctuation would significantly improve the quality of your writing.
