Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 4.0

The response fails to accurately identify the subject matter. You describe the chart as showing the time required to manufacture a car in the United States, whereas the prompt clearly indicates it is a survey of library users. This is a significant misinterpretation of the data. While you attempt to report on the trends for the four companies mentioned, the lack of connection to the actual data provided (library user categories) means the task is not addressed. To improve, ensure you carefully read the labels on the axes and the title of the graph before writing. You must report the information as it is presented, not based on assumptions about the content.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 5.0

The essay is organised into paragraphs, but the logical progression is hindered by the misinterpretation of the data. Cohesive devices are used, such as 'On the other hand' and 'Overall', but they are sometimes used incorrectly or to connect ideas that do not follow logically from the data. The referencing is also problematic; for example, you refer to 'fluctuating many years' without clearly linking this to specific time periods on the graph. The paragraphing is present, but the internal structure of the paragraphs lacks the necessary flow to guide the reader through the data effectively.

Lexical Resource — Band 5.0

The vocabulary is generally limited and repetitive. You frequently use phrases like 'time period of manufacturing a car' and 'make a car', which lack variety. There are also issues with word choice and collocation, such as 'stood on only 24 hours' and 'had very less time period'. These errors occasionally make the meaning slightly unclear. To reach a higher band, you should aim to use a wider range of vocabulary related to data description, such as 'decreased significantly', 'remained stable', or 'a downward trend', and avoid repeating the same basic phrases throughout the response.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.0

There are frequent grammatical errors throughout the text that impact readability. Common issues include incorrect verb tenses ('General Motor company require' instead of 'required'), missing articles, and awkward sentence structures ('as compare it with four manufacturers companies'). The use of complex sentences is limited and often contains errors, such as 'as comparison in 1998'. While the meaning is generally discernible, the high frequency of errors in basic grammar and sentence construction prevents the response from reaching a higher band. Focusing on subject-verb agreement and correct preposition usage would be a beneficial next step.
