Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 5.5
You have successfully identified the main features of both the chart and the table. You provided a clear overview of the user categories and the satisfaction levels. However, the response lacks sufficient comparative analysis. For instance, you listed the percentages for user categories but did not explicitly compare them (e.g., noting that full-time undergraduates are more than five times as numerous as academic staff). Similarly, in the table section, you could have highlighted that staff helpfulness received the highest satisfaction rating while journal availability and Wi-Fi reliability were the most problematic areas. To improve, focus on synthesizing the data rather than just listing the figures.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 5.5
The essay is organized into logical paragraphs, which helps the reader follow the structure. However, the use of cohesive devices is somewhat mechanical and occasionally inaccurate. For example, the phrase 'The last at least' is confusing and does not effectively transition to the final data point. Additionally, the concluding sentence is repetitive and does not add value to the summary. To reach a higher band, focus on using a wider variety of linking words (e.g., 'in contrast', 'consequently', 'furthermore') and ensure that your referencing is precise to improve the flow between sentences.
Lexical Resource — Band 5.5
Your vocabulary is generally adequate for the task, but it lacks the precision and variety required for a higher band. You rely on basic descriptors like 'highest' and 'lowest' and repeat the word 'satisfied' frequently. There are also some errors in word formation and collocation, such as 'very satisfy users' instead of 'very satisfied users'. To improve, try to incorporate more sophisticated synonyms and ensure that your word choices are grammatically appropriate for the context. Expanding your range of reporting verbs and adjectives will help you describe the data more effectively.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.5
The response contains a mix of simple and complex sentence structures, but there are frequent grammatical errors that occasionally distract the reader. Issues include missing articles ('In a pie chart'), subject-verb agreement errors ('table give us', 'Reliability of wi-fi are'), and awkward phrasing ('the result of survey categories'). While these errors do not completely impede communication, they are persistent throughout the text. To improve, pay closer attention to basic grammar rules, particularly subject-verb agreement and the correct use of articles, and aim to proofread your work to catch these minor but frequent slips.
