Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 5.0
The response attempts to summarize the data but fails to provide a clear overview or accurately report the main features. The information provided is often contradictory or confusing, such as the claim that 'full time postgraduate are less than full time undergraduate' without clear data support. The description of the table is also vague, failing to highlight specific figures or make meaningful comparisons between categories. The response lacks a clear focus on the most significant trends, and the lack of precision in reporting the data makes it difficult for the reader to understand the key findings of the survey. To improve, focus on identifying the highest and lowest values clearly and grouping related data points together.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 5.0
The essay is organized into paragraphs, but the progression of ideas is disjointed. The use of cohesive devices is mechanical and often misused, such as the repetitive use of 'In the chart we can see' and 'In table we can see'. Transitions between sentences are weak, making the text feel like a list of disconnected observations rather than a cohesive report. The referencing is sometimes unclear, and the overall structure lacks a logical flow that guides the reader through the data. Improving the use of linking words like 'whereas', 'in contrast', or 'consequently' would help create a more professional and readable structure.
Lexical Resource — Band 5.0
The vocabulary is limited and repetitive, relying heavily on basic phrasing. There are frequent errors in word choice and collocation, such as 'lower once' instead of 'lowest ones' and 'discus about' instead of 'discuss'. The range of vocabulary is insufficient to describe data trends effectively. The student struggles to use precise terminology related to charts and tables, often using informal or inaccurate language. To reach a higher band, the student should learn specific vocabulary for describing trends, such as 'account for', 'represent', 'a significant proportion', and 'fluctuate'.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.0
The response contains frequent grammatical errors that occasionally impede communication. There are issues with subject-verb agreement (e.g., 'library users satisfaction are high'), incorrect article usage, and sentence fragments. The range of grammatical structures is very limited, consisting mostly of simple sentences. There is a lack of complex sentence structures, and punctuation is often used incorrectly, such as placing spaces before commas. These persistent errors in basic grammar and sentence construction significantly limit the clarity of the report. Focusing on basic sentence structure and proofreading for common errors would be beneficial.
