Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 7.0
You have successfully identified the main features of both the chart and the table. You provided a clear overview and supported your points with relevant data. However, the task requires making comparisons where relevant. While you listed the percentages, you could have improved the response by explicitly comparing the categories (e.g., noting that full-time students were six times more frequent than academic staff). Additionally, the overview is slightly generic; mentioning the specific areas of satisfaction would have provided a more comprehensive summary. Overall, you covered all parts of the task well, but the analytical depth could be increased to reach a higher band.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 7.0
The response is logically organized with a clear introduction, overview, and body paragraphs. You used cohesive devices such as 'furthermore', 'however', and 'whereas' to link ideas. However, some transitions feel slightly mechanical, and the paragraphing could be more refined. For instance, the second paragraph mixes the overview with specific data points, which slightly disrupts the flow. To improve, ensure that the overview remains a summary of trends and that body paragraphs are strictly reserved for detailed data analysis. The referencing is generally clear, and the progression of information is easy to follow throughout the text.
Lexical Resource — Band 6.5
You demonstrate an adequate range of vocabulary for the task, using terms like 'illustrates', 'accounting for', and 'satisfaction level'. There is an attempt to use less common vocabulary, though some word choices are slightly repetitive, such as the frequent use of 'noted' and 'expressed'. To reach a higher band, try to vary your verbs and adjectives to describe trends more precisely. For example, instead of 'made use of', you could use 'utilized' or 'represented'. The vocabulary is sufficient to convey your meaning clearly without any significant errors that impede communication.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 6.5
You use a mix of simple and complex sentence structures, such as '44% of full-time learners use the library for studying' and '65% of users were satisfied with opening hours... while 35% noted that the opening times were fair.' There are some minor grammatical slips, such as 'the least were the distance learners' (which should be 'the smallest groups were...') and a few punctuation issues. However, these errors are infrequent and do not impede communication. To improve, focus on ensuring subject-verb agreement and refining the use of articles when discussing percentages and categories.
