Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 5.5
The response covers the main features of the data, such as the proportions of user categories and satisfaction levels. However, the analysis is somewhat superficial. For example, the comparison of satisfaction levels is hampered by inaccurate data reporting (e.g., '95' and '05' without units or context). While the main features are identified, the lack of clear, accurate data presentation and the omission of a clear summary of the trends in the table (e.g., the contrast between high satisfaction with staff and low satisfaction with journals) limits the development of the response. The report meets the minimum length requirement, but the data interpretation needs more precision to reach a higher band.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 5.5
The essay is organised into paragraphs, which helps the reader follow the structure. However, the use of cohesive devices is often mechanical or inaccurate, such as 'moving this part time post graduates' and 'following this'. The progression of ideas is sometimes disjointed, particularly in the second paragraph where the transition between user categories and satisfaction is abrupt. Referencing is occasionally unclear, and the flow between sentences is hindered by repetitive phrasing and awkward transitions. To improve, focus on using a wider variety of linking words and ensuring that each paragraph has a clear, logical focus.
Lexical Resource — Band 5.0
The vocabulary is limited and contains several errors in word choice and spelling, such as 'statification' instead of 'satisfaction', 'lirary' instead of 'library', and 'postive' instead of 'positive'. These errors are frequent and occasionally distract the reader. While the student attempts to use topic-specific vocabulary, the lack of precision (e.g., 'unsatisfied issues') prevents the use of more sophisticated language. To improve, focus on mastering the spelling of key terms and learning collocations related to data description, such as 'a significant proportion' or 'the majority of users'.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.0
The response relies on simple sentence structures, and there are frequent grammatical errors throughout the text. Examples include subject-verb agreement issues ('The pie chart illustrate', 'helpfulness of staff are'), missing articles ('represents small group'), and awkward phrasing ('made of the large proportion usage'). Punctuation is also inconsistent, with unnecessary spaces before commas and periods. While the meaning is generally understandable, the high frequency of errors in basic grammar and sentence construction limits the score. Increasing the variety of sentence structures and proofreading for basic agreement and article usage would significantly improve the quality of the writing.
