Student answer (Band 5.5)

The provided pie chart and table illustrate the result of a survey of library users at a university. In the survey the categories of library users are full time undergraduate, full time post graduate, part time postgraduate, distance learning and academic staffs. User's satisfactory level is measured in range of 3, very satisfied, fairly satisfied and not satisfied based on the fasilities provided in university library.

Most of the library users are full time graduate students, occupying 44% of the area in pie chart. Distance learners among the all courses and academic staffs averagely share 7.5% of library usage, considering least users of library. Users from post graduate students divide into two categories, 25% of student use library for full time and 16% of student use library for part time.

It is clear from the table that student are very satisfied by the staff service by 95%. Availability of books are moderate, only 50% of the student are satisfied with it. Satisfaction percentage for reliable wi-fi service and availability of books are quite similar, nearly 50% student are satisfied with that, and majority from the rest feel fairly satisfied with the service. Opening hour feels very satisfied for 65% of the students.

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 5.5

You have successfully identified the main features of the data, including the breakdown of user categories and the satisfaction levels. You provided a clear overview and supported your points with data from the chart and table. However, there are some inaccuracies in your reporting. For instance, you state that distance learners and academic staff 'averagely share 7.5%', but the chart shows these as distinct categories (7% and 8% respectively). Additionally, your description of the satisfaction levels is slightly confusing; you mention 'range of 3' but do not clearly define the categories. To improve, ensure that data points are transcribed with absolute precision and that you clearly distinguish between different categories to avoid over-generalisation.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 5.5

The response is organised into logical paragraphs, with an introduction, a body paragraph for the chart, and a body paragraph for the table. This structure helps the reader follow your analysis. You use some cohesive devices, such as 'Most of the', 'It is clear from', and 'In the survey', which help link ideas. However, the flow is occasionally mechanical, and some transitions between sentences feel abrupt. To reach a higher band, focus on using a wider variety of linking words and ensure that the progression of ideas within paragraphs is smoother, particularly when moving between different data points in the table.

Lexical Resource — Band 5.5

You demonstrate an adequate range of vocabulary for the task, using terms like 'illustrate', 'occupying', 'satisfactory level', and 'availability'. However, there are some inaccuracies in word choice and collocation, such as 'averagely share' instead of 'account for' or 'represent', and 'opening hour feels very satisfied' which is grammatically awkward. You also use 'fasilities' (spelling error) and 'staff service by 95%' (unnatural phrasing). To improve, focus on using more precise academic collocations and ensure that your vocabulary choices accurately reflect the data presented in the visual aids.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.5

You use a mix of simple and complex sentence structures, but there are frequent grammatical errors that occasionally hinder clarity. Examples include 'User's satisfactory level is measured in range of 3' (missing articles and awkward phrasing), 'student are very satisfied' (subject-verb agreement error), and 'Opening hour feels very satisfied' (incorrect subject). While these errors do not completely impede communication, they are noticeable throughout the text. To improve, pay closer attention to subject-verb agreement, the correct use of articles, and ensuring that your sentence structures are grammatically sound when attempting more complex descriptions.
