IELTS Writing Task 1 question
The chart and table below show the results of a survey of library users at a university.
Summarise the information by selecting and reporting the main features, and make comparisons where relevant.
Categories of library users
Student answer (Band 6.0)
The pie chart illustrates the percentage of different types of library users. Following to pie chart table provides information about satisfaction proportion of library users.
Overall, approximately half of library users are full time undergraduate, while academic staff represented smallest share. There are also other 3 categories which contributes in library in sufficient amount
In the library users full time undergraduate shares about 44%. Followed by full time postgraduate which stood at 25%. Part time postgraduate eventually reaching about 16%. Meanwhile, distance learning and Academic staff represented equally.
By following the table, we get to know the level of satisfaction of students regarding the environment of library. First of all, there are no students who are not satisfied by opening hours and helpfulness of staff. Some students opposed about availability of books which accounted 10 students unsatisfied whereas availability of journals and demand for wi-fi equally opposed by number of students which was 20 each approximately

The essay is organised into paragraphs, which helps the reader follow the structure. However, the use of cohesive devices is sometimes mechanical or awkward, such as 'Following to pie chart table' and 'By following the table'. The transition between the pie chart data and the table data is abrupt. While there is a logical progression from the chart to the table, the internal flow within paragraphs is occasionally hindered by repetitive sentence structures and a lack of varied linking words.
Lexical Resource — Band 5.5
The vocabulary is adequate for the task but lacks range and precision. Phrases like 'sufficient amount' and 'equally opposed' are used in ways that do not quite fit the context. There are also some awkward collocations, such as 'satisfaction proportion' instead of 'level of satisfaction'. While the meaning is generally clear, the student relies on basic vocabulary and struggles to use more sophisticated or academic terminology to describe the data trends effectively.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.5
