Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 5.5
The response covers all parts of the task by summarizing the main features of both the chart and the table. You have successfully identified the key categories of library users and the satisfaction levels regarding library services. However, there are some inaccuracies in data reporting. For instance, you mention '25% was accounted for full-time ones', which is unclear as the chart already specifies 'full-time undergraduates' at 44%. Additionally, the interpretation of the table data regarding 'wi-fi reliability' is slightly imprecise. To reach a higher band, ensure that data points are explicitly linked to the correct categories and that comparisons are more clearly articulated to highlight the most significant trends.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.0
The response is organized into logical paragraphs, with an introduction, an overview, and two body paragraphs. There is a clear progression of ideas. You use some cohesive devices such as 'In contrast', 'Conversely', and 'In terms of', which help guide the reader. However, some transitions feel slightly mechanical, and the referencing is occasionally ambiguous, such as the phrase 'full-time ones' which lacks a clear antecedent. Improving the variety of linking words and ensuring that each paragraph has a clear thematic focus would enhance the overall flow and coherence of the report.
Lexical Resource — Band 5.5
You demonstrate an adequate range of vocabulary for the task, using terms like 'satisfactory reaction', 'dissatisfaction', and 'reliability'. However, there are some awkward collocations and word choices, such as 'accounted for the formation of library visitors' and 'academic stuff' (likely meaning 'staff'). The phrase 'majority fraction' is also slightly unnatural. To improve, focus on using more precise academic vocabulary and ensuring that collocations are accurate. While the vocabulary is sufficient to convey the meaning, it lacks the flexibility and precision required for higher band scores.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.5
You use a mix of simple and complex sentence structures. There are several grammatical errors, such as subject-verb agreement issues: 'The helpfulness of staff were liked' (should be 'was liked') and 'the lack of journals were a let down' (should be 'was a let down'). Additionally, there are minor punctuation and phrasing errors, such as the missing space after the period in 'opening hours.10%'. While these errors do not significantly impede communication, they occur frequently enough to prevent a higher score. Focusing on proofreading for subject-verb agreement and basic punctuation will help improve your accuracy.
