Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 4.0
The response fails to meet the requirements of an Academic Task 1 report. Instead of providing an objective summary of the data, the response includes significant amounts of irrelevant personal opinion and general commentary about libraries (e.g., 'Library is a place where we can find Thousands of Books'). The data provided in the chart and table is presented in a list-like fashion rather than being synthesised or compared effectively. The overview is missing, and the response focuses more on describing the general purpose of libraries than on reporting the specific survey results. To improve, you must focus exclusively on the data provided and include a clear overview of the main trends.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 5.0
The response lacks a logical structure. It begins with an unnecessary introduction that does not relate to the data, followed by a series of disjointed paragraphs. There is no clear progression of ideas; the transition between the survey data and the list of library attributes (opening hours, staff, etc.) is abrupt and confusing. Cohesive devices are used in a repetitive and mechanical way, such as starting multiple sentences with 'And then'. Paragraphing is present but does not serve to organise the information logically. To improve, use clear topic sentences and logical linking words to connect your points.
Lexical Resource — Band 5.0
The vocabulary is basic and often repetitive, such as the frequent use of 'knowledge' and 'libraries'. There are several instances of word-choice errors and awkward collocations, such as 'easily excessible' (accessible) and 'reliability of the WiFi signals are very good'. The range of vocabulary is limited and does not demonstrate the ability to describe data trends or specific features of a chart. To improve, focus on learning topic-specific vocabulary for describing data, such as 'proportion', 'percentage', 'significant', and 'minority'.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.0
The response contains frequent grammatical errors that occasionally impede clarity. There are issues with subject-verb agreement (e.g., 'students goes', '16% of part-time graduate comes'), incorrect article usage, and sentence fragments. The sentence structures are mostly simple, with limited attempts at complex sentences. Punctuation is also inconsistent, particularly with the use of capital letters and full stops. To improve, focus on mastering basic subject-verb agreement and ensuring that each sentence has a clear subject and verb. Reviewing the use of articles and prepositions will also help increase accuracy.
