Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.5
The response covers all parts of the task by summarizing the pie chart and the table. You successfully identified the main features, such as the highest user category (full-time undergraduates) and the most satisfied group (staff helpfulness). However, the analysis could be improved by making more direct comparisons between categories rather than just listing data. For instance, noting that the number of full-time undergraduates is more than double that of full-time postgraduates would strengthen the report. The overview is clear, but ensure that all data points are accurately transcribed, as there are minor inconsistencies in how the figures are presented.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.5
The response is logically organized into clear paragraphs, with an introduction, an overview, and two body paragraphs focusing on the chart and the table respectively. Cohesive devices are used, such as 'The second and third highest proportions' and 'while', which help the flow of information. However, some transitions feel slightly mechanical, and the referencing could be smoother. For example, in the final paragraph, the sentence structure becomes a bit cluttered when listing multiple percentages, which slightly impacts the readability. Using more varied linking phrases would improve the overall cohesion.
Lexical Resource — Band 6.0
You demonstrate an adequate range of vocabulary for the task, using terms like 'proportions', 'amenities', and 'availability'. However, there are several spelling errors, such as 'propotion' instead of 'proportion' and 'avaliability' instead of 'availability'. Additionally, some word choices are slightly unnatural, such as 'gave very satisfied review' (should be 'gave a very positive rating' or 'expressed high satisfaction'). To reach a higher band, focus on more precise collocations and ensure accurate spelling of key terms related to data analysis.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 6.0
The response uses a mix of simple and complex sentence structures. While the meaning is generally clear, there are several grammatical errors. For example, 'Full time undergraduate have' should be 'Full-time undergraduates have' (subject-verb agreement), and 'most of the library regulars was' should be 'were'. There are also minor punctuation issues, such as missing spaces after commas in the final paragraph. While these errors do not impede communication, they occur frequently enough to prevent a higher score. Focus on subject-verb agreement and consistent pluralization.
