Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 5.5

The response covers the main features of the data, such as the user categories and satisfaction levels. However, the analysis is somewhat superficial. For instance, you mention that 'the majority of library users are full time undergraduate' but do not provide the specific figures from the chart to support this. Similarly, when discussing the table, you list percentages but fail to group or compare the data effectively to highlight trends. The report lacks a clear overview or summary statement that synthesises the information, which is a requirement for a higher band score. To improve, ensure you include specific data points and group related information logically.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 5.0

The response is organised into a few paragraphs, but the flow is disjointed. There is a lack of cohesive devices to link ideas; for example, the transition between the chart description and the table analysis is abrupt. You rely on simple sentence structures, which makes the progression of information feel mechanical. Using linking words such as 'furthermore', 'in contrast', or 'regarding' would help guide the reader through the data more effectively. Additionally, the paragraphing is inconsistent, as the text is presented in a way that makes it difficult to distinguish between the introduction, body, and conclusion.

Lexical Resource — Band 5.0

The vocabulary is somewhat limited and repetitive. You frequently use basic phrases like 'things which are mentioned below' and 'remaining questions'. There are also some inaccuracies in word choice, such as 'post time graduate' (likely meaning part-time) and 'higher then' (should be 'than'). While the vocabulary is sufficient to convey the basic meaning, it lacks the precision and range required for a higher band. To improve, try to use more varied terminology related to data description, such as 'proportion', 'significant', 'minority', and 'majority', and ensure you use them in the correct context.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.0

The response contains frequent grammatical errors that occasionally impede clarity. There are issues with article usage ('the chart graph show us'), subject-verb agreement ('The chart graph show'), and punctuation. The sentence structures are mostly simple, with very few attempts at complex sentences. For example, 'Helpfulness of staff is only thing which has positive review higher then any other things' is grammatically awkward. To improve, focus on mastering basic sentence construction, including correct verb forms and the use of articles, before attempting more complex structures. Proofreading for basic errors like 'then' versus 'than' is also essential.
