Student answer (Band 5.5)

Given pie chart displays outcome of the survey of visitors of library inside a university with a table below showing some factors and visitors satisfaction level based on those factors.

Firstly the chart is showing the catergories of library users and clearly the Full-time undergraduate students visit their most often and I think it's because their ratio is high among others in a university usually. Next Full-time postgraduate students are the ones who like to pay visit to library. Academic staff and Distance learning among the least of individuals where as Part-time postgraduate students also go to library their percentage is not more than Full-time students but definitely more than staff and distance learners.

Secondly the table that is also showing some important information like how much users are satisfied from the facilities of library clearly with their satisfaction level like 65% are satisfied by the opening hours and no one is unsatisfied, After this Helpfulness of staff has made 95% to be satisfied and similar 0% for unsatisfied, While for the availability of books, journals and reliable wifi there some visitors who are not satisfied, while more than half are satisfied either very or fairly.

In conclusion I think ratio of visitors of library are based on active full-time and part-time students and their satisfaction depends solely on the facilities provided by library.

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 5.5

The response covers the main features of the chart and table, but it fails to maintain an objective academic tone. You included personal opinions, such as 'I think it's because their ratio is high,' which is inappropriate for an IELTS Task 1 report. Furthermore, the data reporting is somewhat imprecise; for instance, you mention 'more than half are satisfied' for the table, but you do not provide specific figures or make clear comparisons between the categories. To improve, focus on reporting the data objectively without speculation, and ensure you highlight the most significant trends and differences using the provided statistics.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 5.5

The essay is organised into paragraphs, which helps the reader follow the structure. However, the use of cohesive devices is somewhat mechanical and repetitive (e.g., 'Firstly', 'Secondly', 'In conclusion'). The transition between sentences is occasionally abrupt, and the referencing is sometimes unclear, such as in the second paragraph where the flow between the chart and table data feels disjointed. To reach a higher band, try to use a wider variety of linking words and ensure that each paragraph has a clear topic sentence that guides the reader through the data analysis.

Lexical Resource — Band 5.5

The vocabulary is generally adequate for the task, but it lacks the precision and range required for a higher score. You rely on simple phrasing like 'like to pay visit' and 'some important information'. There are also minor errors in word choice and collocation, such as 'ratio of visitors' instead of 'proportion of users'. To improve, incorporate more academic vocabulary related to data description, such as 'proportion', 'significant', 'fluctuate', or 'predominant', and ensure that you use words that accurately describe the trends shown in the visual data.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.5

The response contains a mix of simple and complex sentence structures. However, there are frequent grammatical errors, including missing articles ('the library', 'a university'), incorrect preposition usage, and awkward sentence construction (e.g., 'the chart is showing the catergories'). Punctuation is also inconsistent, with some run-on sentences that lack proper conjunctions or full stops. While these errors do not completely impede communication, they are frequent enough to lower the score. Focus on subject-verb agreement and the correct use of articles to improve your accuracy.
