Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.0
You have successfully identified the main features of both the pie chart and the table. You provided a clear overview and supported your points with relevant data. However, the report suffers from some inaccuracies in data interpretation. For example, you stated that 'availability of journals are highest which are not satisfied', but the table shows that 20% is the highest figure for 'not satisfied', which is a specific data point rather than a general trend. Additionally, some comparisons are slightly confusing, such as the phrasing 'availability of journals represented the lowest satisfied users at 45%'. Improving the precision of your data reporting and ensuring that comparisons are logically structured will help you reach a higher band.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.0
The response is logically organized with a clear introduction, overview, and body paragraphs. You use cohesive devices such as 'Regarding', 'Turning to', and 'Similarly' to guide the reader. However, some transitions are mechanical or slightly awkward, such as 'While part-time postgraduate and distance learning users at 16% and 8% respectively', which is a sentence fragment. The flow between sentences in the second body paragraph is occasionally disjointed due to repetitive sentence structures. To improve, focus on varying your linking phrases and ensuring that every sentence has a clear subject and verb to maintain a smoother, more professional flow.
Lexical Resource — Band 6.0
You demonstrate an adequate range of vocabulary for the task, using terms like 'illustrates', 'segment', 'recorded', and 'accounted for'. There are some instances of slightly unnatural word choices, such as 'substantial points' or 'highest points', which do not accurately describe percentages. While your vocabulary is sufficient to convey the meaning, it lacks the precision and flexibility required for higher bands. To improve, try to use more specific collocations related to data reporting, such as 'accounted for a significant proportion' or 'the highest percentage was observed in'.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 6.0
You use a mix of simple and complex sentence structures, but there are frequent grammatical errors that occasionally hinder clarity. For instance, 'availability of journals are highest' should be 'is the highest'. There are also issues with subject-verb agreement and missing articles, such as 'recorded the 48% were very satisfied'. Some sentences are incomplete or lack proper punctuation, which affects the overall accuracy. While your meaning is generally clear, you need to focus on proofreading for basic grammatical errors and ensuring that complex sentences are constructed correctly to improve your score.
