Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 7.5
The response effectively addresses all parts of the task. You have provided a clear overview of the main trends in both the pie chart and the table. The selection of data is accurate, and you have successfully made relevant comparisons, such as noting that full-time undergraduates were the largest group and highlighting the contrast in satisfaction levels between staff helpfulness and journal availability. The information is well-supported by the provided figures, and the response maintains a logical focus throughout. To reach a higher band, ensure that you consistently synthesize data rather than listing it, though your current approach is already quite strong and analytical.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 7.5
The response is logically organized with a clear progression of ideas. You have used paragraphing effectively to separate the two distinct data sets (user categories and satisfaction levels). Cohesive devices such as 'while', 'whereas', 'in terms of', and 'finally' are used appropriately to link sentences and clauses. The referencing is clear, and the flow of information is smooth. The structure is coherent, and the transition between the introduction, the overview, and the body paragraphs is seamless, making the report easy to follow.
Lexical Resource — Band 7.0
You demonstrate a good range of vocabulary appropriate for an Academic Task 1 report. Phrases like 'accounted for the largest proportion', 'received the most positive ratings', and 'the vast majority of respondents' are used accurately. There is a minor slip in the phrase 'highest level if dissatisfaction' (should be 'of'), but this is a rare error and does not impede communication. You use precise terminology related to data reporting, which shows a good level of control. To improve further, you could incorporate more varied synonyms for 'satisfied' or 'dissatisfied' to enhance the sophistication of your writing.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 7.5
The response displays a variety of complex sentence structures, including the use of subordinate clauses and comparative structures. The majority of your sentences are error-free, and your control over punctuation is solid. There are no significant grammatical errors that hinder understanding. You successfully manage complex information using a mix of simple and compound-complex sentences. The accuracy is high, and the few minor slips do not detract from the overall clarity of the report. Your command of grammar is consistent and supports the professional tone required for this task.
