Categories of library users
Student answer (Band 6.0)
The circular and tabular chart illustrates the outcome of a survey of a library users at a university.
From the first glimpse of the pie chart, it is abundantly clear that the full time undergraduates are 44% only in the library. Then, there is only 1% difference between academic staff and distance learning which is 7% and 8% . The past time post graduates and full time post graduates are 16% and 25% respectively.
Furthermore, in the tabular chart it is representing the user satisfaction. From the library opening hours 65% masses are very satisfied and the 35% are fairly satisfied. Then, the 95% people are very satisfied from the helpfulness of staff and 5% are fairly satisfied. 50%, 40% and 10% people are very fairly and not satisfied from availability of books respectively. Then, there is only 10% difference between people in very and fairly satisfied in terms of availability of journals and 20% are not satisfied. Last but not least, from reliability of wi-fi 48% people are very satisfied then, the 33% are fairly satisfied and 19% are not satisfied.
Overall, in the circular chart the percentum of full time undergraduates are higher while, in the table from helpful staff people are more satisfied.

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.0
You have successfully identified the main features of both the pie chart and the table. You provided a clear overview and supported your points with relevant data. However, the response lacks a comparative analysis. For instance, you listed the percentages for user categories but did not explicitly compare them (e.g., noting that undergraduates make up the largest group, while academic staff and distance learners are the smallest). Similarly, in the table, you listed figures without grouping them to highlight trends, such as which service had the highest satisfaction rate. To improve, focus on synthesising the data rather than just listing the figures.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.0
The response is organised into logical paragraphs, which helps the reader follow the structure. You used some cohesive devices like 'Furthermore', 'Then', and 'Overall' to link ideas. However, the use of 'Then' is repetitive and mechanical, which detracts from the flow. Additionally, some sentences are disjointed, such as the transition between the pie chart and the table. To reach a higher band, try to use a wider variety of linking words and ensure that the progression of ideas feels more natural and less like a list of individual data points.
Lexical Resource — Band 5.5
You have a sufficient range of vocabulary to convey the information, but there are several awkward word choices and non-standard phrasing. For example, '65% masses' is not appropriate in this context; '65% of users' or '65% of respondents' would be better. The term 'percentum' is incorrect; 'percentage' is the standard term. You also used 'very fairly and not satisfied', which is grammatically confusing. Improving your control over collocations and avoiding non-standard terminology will help you achieve a higher score.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.5
Your writing shows a mix of simple and complex sentence structures, but there are frequent grammatical errors. Examples include 'a library users' (should be 'library users'), 'the 95% people' (should be '95% of people'), and 'from helpfulness of staff' (should be 'regarding the helpfulness of staff'). These errors do not generally impede communication, but they are noticeable. To improve, focus on article usage (a/the) and prepositions. While you attempted some complex structures, the accuracy of these sentences needs to be more consistent to reach a higher band.
