Student answer (Band 6.0)

The pie chart depicts the proportional distribution of library users at a university.

Overall, it is clear that Full-time undergraduate accounted for the vast majority, whereas academic staff represented the smallest share. Additionally, it is evident that 95% of the satisfaction among the library user comes as a result of helpful nature of the staff.

Full-time undergraduate users constituted the dominant proportion, making up 44% of the total. This was followed by Full-time postgraduate library users at 25%. Additionally, part-time postgraduate users represented 16% of the total. Distance learning users contributed 8% to the total share whereas academic staff comprised a negligible fraction which is 7% of the total share.

Satisfaction among the library users peaked because of the helpfulness of staff, conversely, dissatisfaction arose due to unavailability of journals, at the same time mainly because of the unavailability of books users were fairly satisfied. 65% users accounted for being satisfied because of library opening hours, 35% users were fairly satisfied because of the same but not dissatisfaction at all exists.

95% users were satisfied stemming from the helpful nature of the staff and 5% users were fairly satisfied.

Half of the users were purely satisfied due to the availability of books, 40% users were fairly satisfied, but 10% users were not satisfied. 45% of the users were satisfied due to the availability of journals, 35% users were fairly satisfied, but dissatisfaction grew to 20%. 48% users were satisfied for the reliability of wi-fi, where 33% were fairly satisfied but 19% users expressed dissatisfaction.

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.0

You have successfully identified the main features of the chart and table. You provided a clear overview and supported your points with relevant data. However, the analysis of the satisfaction table is somewhat cluttered. While you included the figures, the way you grouped the information (e.g., '65% users accounted for being satisfied... 35% users were fairly satisfied but not dissatisfaction at all exists') is slightly confusing and repetitive. To improve, focus on grouping similar trends together more concisely rather than listing every percentage point in a way that obscures the comparison. You have covered all parts of the prompt, but the clarity of the reporting could be enhanced.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.0

The response is logically organized with a clear introduction, overview, and body paragraphs. You use cohesive devices such as 'Additionally', 'conversely', and 'whereas' to link ideas. However, some transitions are mechanical or slightly awkward, such as 'at the same time mainly because of the unavailability of books users were fairly satisfied'. The paragraphing is appropriate, but the flow within the second body paragraph is hindered by the dense presentation of statistics. Improving the variety of cohesive devices and ensuring smoother transitions between sentences would help achieve a higher band score.

Lexical Resource — Band 6.0

You demonstrate a sufficient range of vocabulary to convey the information clearly. Phrases like 'proportional distribution', 'negligible fraction', and 'dominant proportion' are used effectively. There are some minor inaccuracies in word choice, such as 'not dissatisfaction at all exists' and 'satisfied for the reliability', which are slightly unnatural. You attempt to use less common vocabulary, which is good, but ensure that these terms are used in the correct collocations. Overall, your vocabulary is adequate for the task and does not impede communication.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.5

You use a mix of simple and complex sentence structures. While many sentences are clear, there are several grammatical slips, such as 'Full-time undergraduate accounted for' (should be 'undergraduates'), '95% of the satisfaction... comes as a result of helpful nature' (missing articles), and 'dissatisfaction grew to 20%' (which is a slightly awkward way to describe a static survey result). Punctuation is generally fine, but some sentences are slightly clunky due to word order. You have good control, but more attention to subject-verb agreement and article usage would improve the accuracy of your writing.
