Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 4.5

The response attempts to address the prompt by discussing the provided chart and table showing library user categories. However, the task achievement is hindered by a lack of clear and accurate data reporting. Instead of accurately selecting and comparing key features from the visual data, the text is filled with vague statements, misinterpretations of percentages, and irrelevant commentary that obscures the actual information presented. For instance, statements regarding full-time graduates portraying '44 percent of coverage' and part-time postgraduates exceeding '16% in book collecting' fail to synthesize the actual statistical relationships coherently. To achieve a higher band score, the writer must carefully select prominent trends and figures from the charts and report them objectively and accurately.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 4.0

The response exhibits basic paragraphing, dividing the essay into an introduction, body, and conclusion. However, the overall logical progression is severely disrupted by confusing transitions and erratic connections between ideas. Cohesive devices are often used inappropriately or mechanically, such as 'Firstly,' 'In addition,' 'On the other side,' and 'Furthermore,' which fail to establish clear relationships between sentences. Additionally, referencing is frequently unclear, leaving the reader struggling to follow which demographic group or data point is being discussed. Paragraphing is attempted, but internal cohesion within the paragraphs is weak, resulting in a fragmented text that lacks smooth progression.

Lexical Resource — Band 4.5

The vocabulary used is largely basic and repetitive, with frequent inappropriate word choices and collocations that impede clear communication. Phrases such as 'graduates database increased with plenty of time,' 'full time alumna for their career growth,' and 'economic enlargement of university' demonstrate a limited control over lexical items and academic style. There are also noticeable issues with word formation and terminology related to charts and data reporting. While the writer attempts to use some less common vocabulary, inaccuracies in meaning and collocation restrict the range and reduce precision, aligning the response with Band 4.5 descriptors.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 4.5

The response relies heavily on a mix of simple and complex sentence structures, but attempts at complex clauses are frequently faulty and ungrammatical. There are persistent errors in subject-verb agreement, articles, prepositions, and tense usage, such as 'the distance learning courses of library shows,' 'students like to prefer,' and 'exibit 25% of database user with substantial advancement.' Punctuation is also problematic, with run-on sentences and missing commas disrupting the flow. The frequency of grammatical errors causes noticeable strain for the reader and prevents the clear expression of ideas, placing this performance firmly in the lower-mid range.
