Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.0
The student addresses all parts of the task by reporting the main features of both the pie chart and the table. An overview is successfully presented in the second paragraph, highlighting the highest and lowest categories of library users. Key data points are accurately selected and reported, such as 44% for full-time undergraduates and 95% satisfaction for staff helpfulness. However, the report contains a few minor inaccuracies or awkward interpretations in the data description, particularly in the final paragraph where the figures for opening hours are misread as a range between 35 and 65, rather than percentages of satisfaction (65% very satisfied, 35% fairly satisfied). Despite this misinterpretation, the overall response covers the key aspects of the prompt satisfactorily, earning a solid Band 6.0.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.0
The response is coherent overall with a clear logical arrangement divided into an introduction, overview, and body paragraphs. Paragraphing is used appropriately to separate different parts of the visual data. Cohesive devices are employed to link ideas, such as "Overall", "Moreover", "Firstly", and "Furthermore". However, some referencing and cohesion are slightly mechanical or faulty, such as "8% of library individuals belongs to other courses" and minor awkwardness in transitional flow. Nevertheless, the progression of information is generally easy to follow, justifying a Band 6.0 for Coherence and Cohesion.
Lexical Resource — Band 6.0
The student demonstrates an adequate range of vocabulary for the task, attempting some less common phrases like "full-time undergraduate", "academic staff", and "satisfaction rate". There is a spelling error with "satisifaction" in the opening sentence, and some unnatural collocations or word choices, such as "rate of users that have an access to library facilities" and "library individuals". Despite these lexical slips and minor inaccuracies, the vocabulary is sufficient to convey the main points clearly without impeding communication, fitting the Band 6 descriptor.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 6.0
The writer uses a mix of simple and complex sentence forms, demonstrating some control over grammar. Examples include subordinate clauses like "users that have an access to library facilities". However, there are several grammatical errors throughout the text, including subject-verb agreement issues ("The pie chart and table provides"), article misuse ("highest rate", "Majority of individuals"), and preposition errors ("satisfied by the helpfulness" instead of "with"). While these errors are noticeable, they rarely impede communication, placing the response firmly at Band 6.0.
