The chart and table below show the results of a survey of library users at a university.

Summarise the information by selecting and reporting the main features, and make comparisons where relevant.

Student answer (Band 6.5)

The pie chart illustrates the different categories of users at a university library while the table provides information about the level of satisfaction of the users in various aspects of library service.

Overall, the majority of the library users are full-time undergraduate students, in contrast it is least visited by academic staff. In terms of library service, users are mostly satisfied with the opening hours and staff cooperation, although very few are dissatisfied with the availability of journals and books and the wi-fi reliability.

It is evident that almost half of the users(44%) are full time undergraduate students, while full time postgraduate students contribute to one- fourth of the total number. Moreover, part time students and distance learning students contribute to 16% and 8% respectively. On the other hand academic staff are among the less common users of the library, accounting for only 7%.

In terms of user satisfaction, almost all the users(95%) are most satisfied with helpfulness of the staff whereas second in position is the opening hours. Nearly 50% of users are very satisfied with the availability of books , journals and wi-fi.

Few proportion of users are fairly satisfied. 40% of the users believe moderate amount of books are available whereas other services attained similar level of satisfaction at around 40%

Only limited proportion, that is approximately 20% are dissatisfied with the availability of journals and reliability of wi-fi. 10% dissatisfied with books availability.

Cohesive devices such as 'while', 'In terms of', 'Moreover', and 'On the other hand' are used effectively to guide the reader through the comparisons. Paragraphing is logical and appropriate, with each section dealing with a distinct part of the visual data. Referencing is generally clear, contributing to an overall coherent piece of writing.

Lexical Resource — Band 6.0

The vocabulary used is generally adequate and precise enough for an Academic Task 1 response, featuring appropriate terms such as 'illustrates', 'categories', 'proportion', and 'satisfaction'. The student attempts some less common phrasing like 'contribute to' and 'accounting for', though there are minor inaccuracies in collocation and word choice, such as 'Few proportion of users' instead of 'A small proportion of users'. Overall, the lexical range allows for sufficient flexibility and precision to clearly communicate the data.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 6.5

The writer demonstrates a good mix of simple and complex sentence structures, including subordinate clauses and participial phrases (e.g., 'while the table provides information...', 'accounting for only 7%'). There are frequent error-free sentences, and control of grammar and punctuation is generally good.
