The chart and table below show the results of a survey of library users at a university.
Summarise the information by selecting and reporting the main features, and make comparisons where relevant.
Categories of library users
Student answer (Band 5.5)
The pie chart illustrates the uses of library within categories of university students while, the table below shows the satisfaction of the library users in three categories, very satisfied, fairly satisfied and not satisfied at all.
Overall, full-time undergraduate consists of highly usesof proportion as library user while academic staff holds the most sufficient percentage of using of library. From table, in helpfulness of staff aspect, most of the library users are very satisfied however, availability of journals carries the overly not satisfied most.
Library users as full-time undergraduate consists of highly proportion of 44% whereas, academic staff has been using library rarely as total in 7%. Additionally, distance learning (all courses) have 8% of users, part-time postgraduate users consists of 16% and remaining mild 25% of the library users are full-time postgradutae.
In library user satisfaction, within five aspects, helpfulness of staff is at the top in very satisfied consisting 95%, fairly satisfied as 5%. Also, library opening hours is at 65% of being very satisfied and 35% of being fairly satisfied.
In contrast,availability of journals consist of 20% not satisfied as most, 35% fairly satisfied and 45% very satisfied. In reliability of wi-fi, 48% are very satisfied with the service, 33% as fairly satisfied and 19% not satisfied. At last, in aspect of availability of books, 50% are mostly satisfied, 40% as fairly satisfied and 10% not satisfied.

The response covers all parts of the task by reporting the main features of both the pie chart and the table. An overview is attempted in the second paragraph, and key data points are selected for reporting, such as the highest proportion of undergraduate users at 44% and the highest satisfaction rating for staff helpfulness at 95%. However, the overview is rather vague and contains unnatural phrasing like "holds the most sufficient percentage of using of library". Furthermore, there are some inaccuracies in interpreting the data, such as stating that availability of journals carries the "overly not satisfied most", when 20% is indeed the highest dissatisfaction rate among categories but the phrasing is awkward. Overall, the response addresses the prompt adequately but suffers from imprecise summarisation and minor misinterpretations of the visual data.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.0
The response is organized into logical paragraphs, beginning with an introduction, followed by an overview, and then separate paragraphs detailing the user categories and the satisfaction aspects. Cohesive devices are used to link ideas, such as "Additionally", "In library user satisfaction", and "In contrast". However, referencing and cohesion are sometimes faulty or mechanical, as seen in awkward transitions like "From table, in helpfulness of staff aspect" and "At last, in aspect of availability of books". Paragraphing is generally appropriate, but the overall progression of information could be smoother and more coherent if the data points were grouped more logically.
Lexical Resource — Band 5.5
The lexical range is adequate for the task, allowing the student to communicate basic data about percentages and categories. However, there are frequent word-choice and collocation errors that detract from the quality of writing, such as "uses of library", "highly usesof proportion", "most sufficient percentage of using of library", and "mild 25%".
