Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 5.5

The student successfully addresses all parts of the task by reporting the main features from both the pie chart and the table. An overview is provided, highlighting key extremes such as full-time undergraduates dominating user categories and staff helpfulness receiving the highest satisfaction. Data points are generally accurate, citing figures such as 44% for full-time undergraduates and 95% for staff helpfulness. However, there are minor numerical misreadings or awkward phrasings, such as stating that 'availibilty of journals and reliabilty of wifi was not highly satissfied which was recorded as 20 and 19%', referring to the 'not satisfied' category rather than overall satisfaction. Despite minor mechanical reporting flaws, the main trends and comparisons are effectively covered, meeting the requirements for a Band 6.0.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 5.5

The response is organized into logical paragraphs, beginning with an introduction, followed by an overview, a body paragraph on user categories, and a body paragraph on satisfaction levels. Cohesive devices are used to connect ideas, such as 'Overall', 'In addition', 'Regarding', and 'Additionally'. However, referencing and cohesion are sometimes faulty or mechanical, as seen in awkward transitions like 'Regarding, the categories of library users full-time undergraduate was the highest'. Paragraphing is present and appropriate, but the flow between sentences within paragraphs could be smoother and more precise. These features place the response firmly in the Band 6 category.

Lexical Resource: Band 5.5

The student uses an adequate range of vocabulary for the task, successfully incorporating terms such as 'proportion', 'dominates', 'satisfaction', and 'respectively'. However, there are noticeable spelling errors ('availibility', 'reliabilty', 'satissfied', 'recieve') and instances of imprecise word choice or awkward collocation, such as 'proportionate of library used' instead of 'proportion of library users' and 'average satisfied' instead of 'fairly satisfied'. While the vocabulary attempts are generally clear enough to communicate the intended message, the frequency of lexical inaccuracies prevents the score from reaching Band 7.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.5

The response demonstrates a mix of simple and complex sentence forms, utilizing relative clauses and comparative structures. However, there are frequent grammatical errors, particularly with subject-verb agreement and prepositions, such as 'the academic staff and distance learning (all courese) was accounted' (plural subjects with singular verb) and 'service provided by the staff members recieve'. Punctuation is generally acceptable, but sentence structures often lack polish. Although these errors do not impede overall communication, their frequency across the text limits the score to Band 5.5.
