Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 4.0
The student attempts to address the task by summarizing the pie chart showing categories of library users, mentioning key figures such as 44% for full-time undergraduates and 25% for full-time postgraduates. However, the response is incomplete because it cuts off mid-sentence ("Consetiuently, the table de"), failing to report any information from the table regarding library user satisfaction. Furthermore, the length requirement of 150 words is not met, as the response contains only 131 words. Consequently, the task is only partially addressed, leading to a penalty for under-length and missing data from the visual source.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 4.5
The text exhibits some basic organizational structure with an introductory overview and subsequent body sentences. However, coherence is severely disrupted because the response ends abruptly in an unfinished sentence. Paragraphing is attempted, but cohesive devices are basic or awkward (e.g., "last but not least is academic staff"). Reference and progression break down entirely towards the end as the text cuts off before introducing the table data. While some logical sequencing is initially visible, the incomplete nature of the writing prevents a clear overall progression from being established.
Lexical Resource: Band 5.0
The student demonstrates an adequate vocabulary range for basic task description, utilizing words such as "categories," "percentage," "undergraduates," and "postgraduate." However, there are notable lexical errors and awkward word choices, such as "percentage of consumption of library's" and the spelling error "respectively" merged as "respectype" or "satisfactionr espectively" as well as "Consetiuently." Less common vocabulary is attempted with limited success and accuracy, resulting in language that occasionally causes strain for the reader.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.0
The student employs a mix of simple and some complex sentence forms, such as "students who are studying full time uses the library the most as compared to..." However, there are frequent grammatical errors, including subject-verb agreement issues ("The pie chart and the table gives", "students... uses"), incorrect prepositions, and incomplete sentences due to the abrupt cut-off at the end of the text. Punctuation and capitalization are also somewhat erratic ("Overall, The"). These errors persist and occasionally hinder clarity.
