Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 6.0

The student successfully covers all parts of the task by reporting the main features from both the pie chart and the table. An overview is provided in the first paragraph, identifying that full-time undergraduates form the largest user group and teaching staff the smallest, alongside highlighting high satisfaction levels in customer service. Key data points are accurately reported, such as full-time undergraduates at 44% and helpfulness of staff at 95% very satisfied. However, some data presentation is slightly repetitive or mechanical in the body paragraphs, and the phrasing occasionally drifts from formal academic style. Nevertheless, all major trends and figures are correctly represented, fully meeting the requirements for Band 6.5, rounded to 6.0 based on general descriptive depth.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.0

The response is organized into clear paragraphs, beginning with an introduction that includes an overview, followed by separate body paragraphs for the pie chart and the table. Cohesive devices such as 'Overall', 'On the other hand', 'Meanwhile', and 'Furthermore' are used to structure the text, though some transitions feel slightly mechanical or forced (e.g., 'The pie chart having...'). Paragraphing is logical, separating the demographic breakdown from the satisfaction survey results. While the overall arrangement is coherent, referencing and cohesion are occasionally faulty or repetitive, which prevents the response from reaching a higher band. Progression is generally clear throughout the text.

Lexical Resource: Band 6.0

The student demonstrates an adequate range of vocabulary for the task, attempting less common terms such as 'proportion', 'satisfaction level', and 'dissatisfaction'. However, there are noticeable lexical inaccuracies, awkward word choices, and typographical errors, such as 'matrix' instead of 'table', 'customer service staff' for 'helpfulness of staff', 'mijoderate', and 'immensely satisfied'. Collocations are sometimes unnatural, as seen in 'services hours category' or 'network had 48%'. Despite these errors, the vocabulary is sufficient to convey the intended meaning without severely impeding communication, placing the response firmly in the Band 6 category.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.5

The writer attempts a mix of simple and complex sentence structures, including relative clauses and comparative phrasing. However, grammatical control is inconsistent. There are several structural errors and missing auxiliary verbs or prepositions, such as 'working graduate student had 8% part of the chart', 'full-time undergraduates with highest ratio is 44%', and the fragmented sentence 'For customer services staff 95%, 5%, 0%, respectively.' Punctuation is also erratic in places, with stray characters ('pa hi; ólbthe') appearing due to transcription or typing slips. Errors in grammar and punctuation occur frequently, though they rarely obscure the overall communication of the data.
